- If you saw one of my last videos about my 2022 art supplies, you'll know that one of my favorite things has been to customize a palette to all my favorite colors. In today’s video I’m showing you how I set up this palette. This is a perfect thing to do if you’re looking to customize a watercolor or gouache palette with all of your most frequently used colors. Hope you enjoy!

ABOUT ME
Hi! My name is Margot and I am a professional artist and graphic designer. My parents like to joke that I was born with a paintbrush in hand. I started my career after graduating from the renown Parsons School of Design in New York City and spent over 15 years creating and designing for many of the world's top Fortune 500 brands and companies. My painting journey started as a side project and a creative outlet for me to step away from the computer, go back to my "roots" in fine art and to hone my skills as an illustrator and painter. I started posting some of my work on instagram and the rest is history. My work is inspired by all the things that I am passionate about. Ballet, travel, graphic design, color and finding a world of beauty in all facets of everyday life. I hope you’ll join me in this CZcams journey as I take you through all the tips, tricks and trade secrets I’ve gathered throughout the years. I hope I can teach you some of what I know, help you discover your creative voice and I hope you enjoy this Channel!

I love e that is real, clean and organized and not just aesthetic and telling to buy stuff that you don’t really need
One year later. Would love an update. Did it work for your painting style? What would you do differently with what you know now?
You’re a girl after my own heart. I love the precision and practical tips too - great idea to put a dab of paint on the lid of the tube and store them lid side up so you can find the right colour easily. Thank you for such a professional and useful tutorial!
You're so welcome Genny! I'm all about being practical and getting the job done with the least amount of hassle as possible 😜
please do an update!! Just purchased Holbein and curious about storing them in a palette. Thank you!!
I store mine in an airtight mijello palette and put it in the fridge it works great
Great information! I was trying to decide if I wanted to use a pallets tray!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much for this video. Wish I saw this video before I bought New palettes to hold gouache. I have that exact palette you’re using already.🤦🏻♀️
Love your palette! Hoping for a swatch video of your favorite colors!
Thank you for watching and will absolutely do!!
Thank you for the beautiful video. Would you please provide a list of the colors? Thank you 🌻
BEAUTIFUL palette!!💖💖💖 I missed a final swatch with all the names 😉
Thank you for watching Michelle and omg you’re right!! Will add them all to my description but that’s a good catch for future videos! 👍
@@Pointebrush That would be lovely😘
Saw someone on CZcams, sorry can’t remember her name, who used pliers to pull those metal bars out. This will give you an extra row. You’ll just have to use some museum tack or magnetic tape to secure the pans into the palette. This is even better for the smaller metal palettes.
🥰🥰🥰
Amazing video! If you rewet it considerably, can you get the same opacity as out of the tube?
Yes absolutely! Some are harder to rewet but if you add a couple of drops and let it set a couple of minutes before you start painting, the consistency should be nearly identical to paint that’s fresh out the tube
Great video! How do you find the gouache performs after it’s been dried? I’m just getting into gouache and I’ve seen several CZcamsrs say it’s better to not let it dry out as you can’t achieve the same results with it later. Would be curious for your thoughts on the method you’ve shown!
That's a great question Kassia! So I would say that yes, gouache tends to be more buttery and have a better consistency squeezed straight out of the tube but there are some workaround to get a better consistency from dried gouache. The palette is a convenience setup so you lose a little bit of quality in the area of quality to get more convenience. However, here are some tips that I've picked up throughout the years:
1. When you rewet your gouache, a lot of people rewet it lightly (like watercolor) when they're actually starting to paint when in fact, it's better to wet it considerably and a couple of hours before you start. That way it's giving the water enough time to soak into the paint. I use a water dropper, drench my paint in it and sometimes I'll even leave it overnight.
2. I always use my white straight out of the tube since I'm adding white to nearly anything I mix, the white will help in achieving a better consistency
Hope this helps and don't hesitate to report back of something isn't working ;)
I was just gunna ask this same question I didn't know u can do this with gouache.
🎉A trick I learned off Miranda Watsons CZcams that you can pull the silver dividers out and you can fit an entire extra row of colours
Can you do a swatching video on of this palette
Sure, why not! 😜
I did this with my Winsor Newton designer gouache but once they dried, they all crumbled like broken clay or cookie crumbs. If I don’t hold the palette upright, the crumbles fall into the neighboring pans. Is that normal for it to all crumble ? Thank you ❤
Do you mostly work in gouache? I am entering the water color world and am wondering the difference between gouache and water color.
I split my time between both! Have i got the video for you! I actually made one all about the intrinsic differences between watercolor and gouache. You can check it out here > czcams.com/video/Ixm5T7s74ig/video.html
What a wonderful
Video! Thank you!
How you keep the gouache wet?
I just heavily spray it down about 5 minutes before I start
Wish i could be scent some watercolor paint, paper, brushes, and gouache to recreate 2 of my great grandma's artwork (Louise Wolfe and Ruth Wolfe)
U just squeezed our fancy colors onto ur fancy pallate.. where did u set up a pallate here
