I thought you meant that both songs were sad. 1000 Doves is asking someone to lift her up (because she is down), and Smile is telling someone that they are the reason she smiles (because it's been a while since everyday and everything has felt this right). 1000 Doves does have that Target acoustic version, but the original album version doesn't sound acoustic to me at all. It sounds upbeat and even has an EDM drop. I used the album track version in this mashup, and ironically, I had to slow Gaga down to match Avril's tempo. The main reason I made this mashup was the "a thousand doves" section sounding like "the reason why I smile" section. The "a thousand doves" section that sounds like Smile is only in the album track version, not the acoustic Target one. The album track version feels more upbeat and EDM-y, and it feels (to me) slowed down and acoustified in this mashup. Hearing your perspective, which is totally opposite to mine, is very interesting!
