  • Theory11 is back with another partnership - this time to produce a deck themed after everyone's favorite spy, James Bond. Agent 007 himself. It features - as expected - a stunning embossed tuck case. But how does the deck live up to expectations as a whole? Let's go!

    I really like this deck of cards. Theory 11 could have done more with the court cards but I believe they were trying to design a deck of cards that the Character James Bond would have designed for himself. Using icons of his favorite things, watch, martini glass, diamond and crown. Using his family motto and even family crest. And all of the hidden icons like the Q on the queen is the Q for Q-Branch. I enjoy having a deck of cards that I believe James Bond would have created for himself.

      Nice take! I still would have liked to see characters on the courts, but I can fully appreciate the angle of a deck Bond would USE more so than a deck ABOUT Bond per se. And good catch on the Q font! I definitely missed that!

    Another great review Tim. Can’t say I’m sold on this deck. I agree, an opportunity sadly missed.☹️

      @TheCardGuyReviews  Před 3 lety

      Yeah agree. T11 has proven they CAN do full custom courts and do them well. Wish they had taken more of that angle with this one!

    Got one f those, really love it. I prefer having a deck like this, not too modified, so that is elegant but recognisable. Good work

    I've really grown to love your reviews. Your voice is so soothing haha
    I've watched a few reviews on this deck and you're the only one that mentioned it's the Union Jack on the back. So props for that.
    Just wanted to point out, however, the Union Jack isnt the flag of England. It's made up of the flag of England(cross of St George), flag of Scotland (cross of St Andrew and the origin of James Bond) and the red X (aka saltire) for St Patrick, to represent Ireland

    • @TheCardGuyReviews
      @TheCardGuyReviews  Před 3 lety +1

      Ah of course! It's the flag of Great Britain, not England! (The American in me uses those two interchangably way too often...even though I supposedly know the difference...)

    I'm probably going to end up buying one of these at some point down the line because of the elegance of that tuck case, definitely suited to the Bond theme, but I will sadly never open the deck because of the massive disappointment to be found inside. I understand why T11 decided to show only a minimal amount of the court faces on the product page; they miss the mark by a long shot. I could not agree more, a massive opportunity was missed with this project. I understand that T11 is magic-oriented and as such, will often try to keep their courts standard-adjacent, but this was definitely not the time to do so.

    • @TheCardGuyReviews
      @TheCardGuyReviews  Před 3 lety +2

      Tuck case remains worth the price of entry in my opinion. But SO much more could have been done with the theme!

    In T11 fashion - great looking tuck 🤩, disappointing deck 😔. I totally agree, with all the iconic characters you'd think some of them would be featured. Maybe it was a licensing issue with using the likeness of characters. All in all, it's still T11, so it has to be added to my collection. Mine should be getting here tomorrow. Great review Tim 👍.

      Hard to call it BAD with that deck for $10. But disappointing execution that fell short of what's possible!

    Excellently covered every details and another great review! The tuck is amazing but those lack or creativity or detailing on the courts are underwhelming. Thanks for the review and looking forward to a lot more reviews as always :)

    Hey TGC. Now I have no idea about licensing image laws so I'm just guessing here, but I'm thinking T11 would of had to get a release from every actor to put their image or likeness on the face of a card and the cost would have just spiraled out of control. I don't know that for sure but that's just my guess as to why we might be seeing a lot of famous characters or just simple the people who own James Bond licensing wouldn't allow T11 to go much further than they did. I love how the King of Hearts is wearing a watch. (did you catch that little detail? lol)

    • @TheCardGuyReviews
      @TheCardGuyReviews  Před 3 lety +1

      The optimist in me wants to believe it was a licensing snafu, but T11 has done the "great tuck, standard cards" on a few other decks, so not sure. I don't think they would need actor releases since they would be depicting the characters, and actors wouldn't usually maintain the rights to THAT. Like, I assume Disney owns Luke Skywalker, not Mark Hamill. And I did see the little watch detail...the clothing was a nice touch on the courts for sure! Just wish they had added more!

    I'm a big fan of 007, but I passed on these decks. A very sweet tuck-case, but the cards are really nothing special to me (the 007 theme has a pretty weak showing in this deck)

    Ya the back design could've been a lot better, looks very plain compared to the outer box, wish they would've used more color or perhaps spot varnish for added effect.

      after watching the video i must say I'm impressed by the tuck case, very very disappointed with the card back design and color, I love that ace of spades though it's one of the best aces I have seen in a deck this year imo, the courts cards though I'm not really sure that they match the theme of the deck but that's just my opinion. I'm not sure if i will purchase this deck after watching your review!

    Thanks for the great review. I'm a huge Bond fan, but these look really disappointing. As you said, there was so much potential for custom courts and they failed. Is it possible to just buy the tuck box without the cards? :P

  • @kimmern999
    @kimmern999 Před 3 lety +1

    When the back is as intricate and detailed as this (similar to Hudson, High Victorian, etc.), I think the "monochrome" choice is a good one. Metallic or foiled backs doesn't work well with highly detailed back designs in my opinion. It gets too cluttered. So yeah: I really like the backs of these cards. I totally agree with the court cards though. As if it wasn't diappointing enough with the standard Bicycle design, they also opted for too many repeated weapons. They seem to have run out ideas of what to put in their hands. I don't want to call it lazy, but it seems strange that it would be too much to ask for to get something unique for each one. The design is clean and OK enough, but I won't be investing in these. Thanks for showing us in detail yet again - great review.

    • @TheCardGuyReviews
      @TheCardGuyReviews  Před 3 lety +1

      Yep agreed! It's a shame for sure. I was hoping for a lot more. I don't know that I would have wanted foiled backs, though...just some contrasting colors to help accent parts of the design!

    Definitely the biggest ace of spades I’ve ever seen in a deck. No doubt I’ll end up picking one up because I’m a mark for T11 cards, but this deck is average at best. Great tuck though (as always with T11).

    I'm absolutely disappointed that they don't at least have the faces on the cards at least like Mrs. Solitaire in that one Bond movie. If they had them I would have bought them. But since they don't I will be buying the the terrorist America's wanted cards from 911 that veterans really did play with before and after the war.
