  • Taking place on the coast of La Jolla, California, TEDxLaJolla seeks to develop and leverage the TED experience, bringing together innovators, performers, and inspirational speakers at a stunning outdoor venue to discuss making an impact. Register for the April 12, 2014 event at www.TEDxLaJolla.org.
    Bob Goff is the New York Times Best-Selling Author of Love Does, as well as an attorney who founded Restore International, a nonprofit human rights organization operating in Uganda and India. With a team of dedicated people, Restore International has pursued justice for the needy. Restore worked with Uganda's judiciary in bringing to trial over 200 cases, including cases involving children who were languishing in jail without trial. In India, Restore investigated and intervened to relieve minor girls from a life of forced prostitution, leading to the identification and arrest of over 80 perpetrators. Restore now has a school in Northern Uganda called the Restore Leadership Academy.
    In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

    This is so good. We don't need organizations or big labels in order to make a change in the world. It starts with each and every person deciding to look for opportunities to help other people.

    An incredible lesson in humility. I love the fact that he calls networking for what it is really: "a basterdised version of friendship"

    As a Veteran's Widow, Military Mom and Author of a book sharing my now 25-year battle with the VA, your words inspire me to continue my "Mission" for Veterans and their families...a "Mission" I never asked for, but accepted. If I help one Veteran and their family member to "Never Give Up," then I had a true purpose in life. GOD Bless you, Bob. We are planning to join you in Macon, GA on 17 Sept. 2021. "With GOD, and you, all things are possible!"

    To demonstrate his point, he should write a truly incredible book, revealing the cure to cancer and not publish it. Also he could and should quit telling the world how secretly incredible he is.

    "Be like Jesus just be secretly incredible"
    Bob why did Jesus tell those he healed not to tell anyone according to scripture?

    • @peytonhanel7059
      @peytonhanel7059 Před 4 lety +4

      There could be 2 reasons: firstly, he teaches in the sermon on the mount in matthew 5-7 to do good works in secret. "Don't let your right hand know what your left hand is doing." The purpose of this is to do good for the sake of doing good, not for gaining anything out of it, and God himself will reward us because he sees all that is done in humility and secret. So Jesus was following his own teaching. Secondly, it is noted that a lot of people he healed did go out blabbing to everyone, and it caused large crowds to come after Jesus which could make his ministry more difficult. So Jesus was trying to do his ministry without being overwhelmed by large crowds, but he does end up handling them well when they do come and "healing everyone".

    I am curious. How did you get the authority granted you to try the children's cases and the government accept your verdict to let the kids go free? God was working on your side certainly, but wondering how you gained their approval.

      It is explained in detail in his book, "Love Does" It's been a while since I read it but basically Bob was representing the children as their attorney, not acting as the judge (which is why they needed a judge).

      In a few cases He did, and He also said that your good works should be in secret. But He did a lot of works in public too. His main intent was that a doer of good should not be too interested in his public image.
