    So much stuff I’ve never used in freecad and this was one of them

      Same here, Craft, Design and Technology class I learnt some technical drawing and it was my favourite subjects. Had some great life skills included putting up a shelf, wiring up a lamp and plug and rigging up a sewing machine. Most random collection of lessons but so enjoyable. Think they was preparing us to own and run a shed!

      And a pencil 🤣👍. I am old enough to have used rotring ink on tracing paper, a scalpel to correct errors. In fact, when we moved to cad, the plotters used ink pens too. An A1 plot could take an hour, and if your pen ran out in the last 5 mins 😂🥵. And we had to send the plots out to get actual blueprints.

    TechDraw is likely the fastest evolving workbench in FreeCAD. All thanks to its main dev wandererfan and a guy called edi who responds to user requests with great macros that are later implemented as new features.

    Hi, since you have a dimension derived from 3D shape, you do not need to change it manually to show real value 13:50 Just set "Measure Type" to "True"

    I found this much faster, as I have many lines, and 0.20 was struggling

    I don't understand why the isometric dimension of the cube edge was different from the orthographic dimension.

      So helpfully a viewer kwahoo has pointed out you can set the measure type as true in the properties so no need to change it. I haven't tried it yet but a really helpful pointer. I'm unsure why this isn't on as default.

    Great!. I am using it now and doing some sheet metal work. I noticed the "Insert Draft Workbench" feature now seems to be broken. I cant get lines or anything other than a draft workbench rectangle wire to show in Techdraw. So when I unfold a sheet metal shape in Sheet Metal Workbench, the created unfold sketch must be imported as a Draft Workbench object in order to show the fold lines. But TechDraw does not show anything I can see other than the frame. No lines etc. Even if you draw lines in Draft, they dont work either. The only thing I could get to work was a rectangle. The Techdraw icon shown in the import views from other workbenches show the same icon as Draft uses for the rectangle when you look at the project tree. The other objects like lines and the unfold sketch have icons that look different. Dont know if that gives a clue... But I like how it works in general now. I will see how I can work around this.

    I have been using FreeCAD 0.19 and would like to do SolidWorks' factory machine electrical examples. Panel-builder is most interesting linking 3D sensors to the electrical schematic data is nice. I am not certain if FreeCAD can do this? SolidWorks & AutoCAD are very pricey just to learn. Also, I wonder if there are other free factory CADs similar to SolidWorks? 😎 Thank you.

    Is there any way to brake the extention line for radius/diameter dimension so, that the part with the number is horizontal and the extention line being broken just in front of the number, while the line inside/outside of the circle stays at the angle you put it? It would surelly make the drawing look a lot better/neat/aesthetically pleasing....

    • @MangoJellySolutions
      @MangoJellySolutions  Před 9 měsíci

      If you click on the dimension there are some properties in the data tab but I think you are restricted to dotted, dashed and normal.

    Can't understand why the same edge is 40.82 mm in the isometric view and 50 mm in the top view. Is it most recent relativity physics?

    Mr Jelly, is FC suitable for knocking up plans, say for a lean-to or or shed? Something that has lots of parts. I’ve only ever made single body parts for 3d printing using FC. I used to have SketchUp, which would make designing a shed pretty easy, but I don’t have a copy any more. Cheers.

    • @MangoJellySolutions
      @MangoJellySolutions  Před rokem +2

      Yes you can either create each part of the shed and use the assembly workbench or you could try out the arc workbench which is specifically designed for architecture and BIM.

    Hi! Actually, 3D dimensions can be REAL! Just change the "Measure Type" to "true", select edge in "References 3D" , and recompute.
