This song depicts nostalgia at its best. The passage of time. It feels as if an old woman is reviewing her past in which she still finds the beauty that is now physically gone and that is somehow intact in her mind. The love she once felt for her lover has been transformed into lost hope (if you call I’ll run), her youth, her dreams, her passions, life at it used to be. The only proof of all of that is only embodied in herself and she knows that she’s about to go, and with her it’s the life that was but that no longer is.

this song will always be the "Nick Carraway" to me. the chorus reminds me of the selflessness with which he was devoted to Gatsby. he is such an underrated character. Nick was always there for Gatsby. and he will always be there for him.
I dedicate this song to Helen McCrory she was one of my favorite actors who passed away due to cancer yesterday, her character Polly was my favorite from the show Peaky Blinders. She inspired me to be strong and always made me laugh she was a beautiful and strong woman and I'll miss her dearly.
I listened to this when i was thinking of him, wondering where he was or what he was doing or if he was thinking about me as much as i was of him. But it didn't work out in the end and i am glad it didn't because he wasn't who i thought he was. This song still bring back those memories of sleepless nights, awaiting for his text. Looking back with a more mature lens, I realized i didn't love myself enough to move on with dignity. The old saying still stays true - love yourself, sad it took me my whole youth to understand it. I hope all lonely souls will never have to go through what i went through. Love yourself enough to walk away. The rainbow will shine again.
How I interpret it: the woman/"main" person singing it still has hope and reflects on her past as something beautiful that remains in her memories, but lives on in an alternative universe. She knows her lover loves her still, but they need to go their separate ways. It is an emotional song, but absolutely not tragic: it is full of distant hope, memories and eternal love and that makes it emotional
the only song that for the past 5 years ive listened to at my worst and it always felt like it was my first time listening to it and it kills me everytime with how much i connect to it and to almost every single lyric being said
This song feels like a dark summer day, the breeze being somewhat chilly, but the air itself is warm and sticky. The beauty of an old world that moves at a fast pace. And you can’t really keep up. You know that you’re well loved but feel so alone. You have personal problems, sure, but you miss your person. It’s that one ex you can’t seem to get over. You’re friends now, have been for awhile. You thought it was over, thought you’d moved on (“for reasons unknown to me”), but you didn’t. You have a longing for that person. You can go about your life all you want, look at them like a friend, watch them smile like there isn’t a care in the world like a friend. Laugh with them like a friend. You can watch them at their lowest and care like a friend. You can watch them go through a breakup and talk them through it like a friend. You can go weeks without talking and then see them somewhere and make small talk like friends. But if they said they wanted you back, if they called for you, you’d run to them. Because you never stopped loving them.
I absolutely love that she sampled it from the song "What is a Youth" from the 1968 version of Romeo and Juliet. It gives a whole new perspective to it.
i just started crying out of the blue and i can't stop. . . i feel so alone, i need someone to listen to me, i need a hug, i need to be loved, please 😭💔
one of her saddest songs
her saddest one .
i’d say her saddest songs are old money, hope is a dangerous thing for a woman to have, cinnamon girl, california, and 13 beaches

Nick was always there for Gatsby. and he will always be there for him.
Funny thing is that Nick actually isn't that nice in the book

this made the song 10x sadder.. in her voice it just sound's like she's done with everything.
shes such an old soul
“And if you call, I'll run, run, run
If you change your mind, I'll come, come, come.”
This part always made me sob uncontrollably.
why does this seem so underrated :(( her best song

Beautiful!
I am getting a hydrangea tattooed behind my ear. This song changed me in such ways.
I planted a hydrangea bush 8 years ago and it blooms every year , because of this song

Picture the balcony scene from Romeo & Juliet with this playing in the background.
I just listen to this and I think that things are already bad, but they can't be worse, all from my point of view 😆
If you change your mind, i'll come come come to you. 🕊
The first time I heard this song I sang along thinking it's from Romeo and Juliet.
