    My wife and I (both in our 60's) are from Kentucky and because of your videos we'll be making our first trip to Ron Coleman's mine in the summer of 22. Been watching your channel for tips. I do have a couple of questions if you have the time. You "cook" yours on a stovetop outside. Can I do the same thing using my propane grill that has a cover? It has a temperature guage and I can keep it well below boiling. What is the optimal temperature? Next question. Of course we will be initially cleaning them on site at the mine. However, we will be traveling for a couple of weeks AFTER we leave the mine and not be able to do the deep cleaning until we get home. Will that time lapse hurt our chances for a successful deep clean? And my last question. I plan on wrapping our treasures in newspaper while we're heading out for the rest of our trip. Do we wrap them fully dried or can they be wrapped if they are toweled dry, yet still a little damp? I've subscribed a couple of weeks ago and am going through your crystal specific videos and enjoy your enthusiasm and content. BTW we are not selling anything we find but this type of activity has been on my bucket list for about 5 years after my wife and I had a very successful geode hunt here in Kentucky not far from our home. We plan on giving our 16 grandchildren some of the crystals we find.

    I've tried this myself in the past and regarding the yellow staining, are you guys aware of any way to remove the yellow? I think I have read that hydrochloric acid can remove it but I'm not sure if that's true. Also is it just when you don't clean the acid off properly that this happens? as I did this one time with a large piece and let it soak in normal water afterwards to neutralize all the acid and I still got quite a bit of yellow staining. Thanks for the great video! Subbed!

    • @ThatCampingCouple
      @ThatCampingCouple  Před 4 lety +1

      Carl Jackson hahah cleaning crystals is always a trial and error type of thing! I have soaked so many crystals and never had them yellow until just the other week. Three batches all yellowed. 😂 your not the only one! so when you soak the crystals you only want to soak them long enough to clean them. Some people leave them in the acid to long which causes them to yellow. Especially if you are reusing the same acid for a while. Your solution becomes green and the excess of iron in the acid mix is what stained them. You can re soak them in fresh mix of acid. Sometimes that’s all it takes. Otherwise you can try iron out. Just a heads up when you are putting it in water to neutralize the acid it actually doesn’t work very well. I think what yellowed those batches was leaving them in water to “neutralize” the acid to long. The best is to clean it really well with soap and water then let it soak for just a couple hours in soapy water then rinse and your done! Best of luck! Have any more questions please let us know! 👍😁

    • @ThatCampingCouple
      @ThatCampingCouple  Před 4 lety +2

      Nicole Vincent hahah I should have been a little more specific! 😂 it depends on how much water you use and the amount of crystals! The bag I get from Ron Coleman’s can do 6 gallons of water. What I do is estimate the amount of water and then add the acid accordingly! I would Start with 3 tablespoons of acid for every half gallon when heating! If your not heating them I would use a little more! 😃

      Every state has Crystals but we mostly dig them at Ron Coleman’s mine in Arkansas 😊👍

      Sometimes they are very tiny cracks!!! Doing 1-3 acid soaks should ge the majority of it. Don't streas if there is still a bit of coloring😊 many people will think its pretty as is

    About how much did it cost you to dig all of those? I'm hoping to go in a couple of weeks.

      Honestly probably 3-4 days at Ron’s so I’d say 125-200. I’m not sure if we both dug every day! Those would be the better Crystals from the digging. 👍😊

    May I recommend rubber gloves & long tongs with rubber tips?

    I’m so confused reason being, I just read an article that said always use ceramic or plastic. And add water to the acid Idk, Can you clean the crystal and hekimer together? I would think so just asking. And boy would I love to go to the mine just ❤️❤️it.
