MIT Letter of Continued Interest - Isaac Cheruiyot

Lyrics and Explanation:
The first four stanzas express of my deep interest in MIT and the ways it has grown over time. The next two stanzas detail how incredible people I met at MOSTEC inspired me to be more proactive about my future, which includes getting more involved in my community and working to get personal projects done. The verse after the pause describes everything I’ve been up to since applying. I volunteered for two campaigns: Jen Metzger's State Senate campaign and Pat Ryan’s Ulster County Executive campaign. In engineering club, we are currently building a staircase to assist a three legged turtle get to its food bowl and have basic outlines for a chair that can be programmed to move itself to different locations within a classroom, making a more adaptable educational environment. I also am taking an Engineering Design and Development course in which my team is designing a walking aid to replace walkers and canes. We hope to reduce the physical dependence on the aid themselves by encouraging muscle strengthening while still providing the support users need. I’ve also been teaching myself more about quantum computing, a field I’ve become increasingly interested in since talking to one of its founders. I finish the verse off by discussing all the work I do’ with mock trial and scholarships, and how I'm still staying physically active through soccer and working out. The last verse is about the ways in which I can contribute to the MIT with my ability to connect diverse groups of people, my leadership skills, and my drive to take on projects and try new things. Finally, the last part of the song covers what I hope to gain from going to MIT:a strong education, along with strong connections so that no matter what final path I ultimately choose, I’ll be prepared to take on any obstacle presented to me. At MIT,I will live by my motto and “do more and have an impact”.

my third time there my mind felt free
all these nerds filled me with glee
My dream school since the second grade
my interest since has yet to fade
and it grows stronger every year

better every skill I have

I’ve been working for campaigns

I’ve been engineering stuff
Leading engineering club
Making cool self parking chairs

trying to rid them of dependence
help them run through any entrance
I’ve been coding on my own
using qiskit here at home
up in bed looking dreary
its quantum information theory
but I’m also on the grind

tryna show the court my best
I’m Applying left and right
writing essays every-night
cause the scholarship is mine
long as I put in the time
I’m still working on my game
playing soccer everyday
hit the gym four times a week
keep my fitness at its peak

after going school to school

MIT should be my home
The community of knowledge
Mixed with all the fun of college
