Some of even the most respected Joyce scholars say Finnegans Wake should be ignored as unintelligible. I understood (with the help of other books) a portion of the enigmatic masterpiece's use of language and was amazed at how much it opened up once I got a few bearings in the text. Although I think it ranks lower than Ulysses as a Modernist masterpiece (From the standpoint of of an admirer of the Western Canon. It's okay if you're critical of that ideology. Hey some times I am too.) but it is definitely worth the effort for the payoff of understanding a portion of it. If for no other reason than for the laughs that you'll get once you in to it. My father introduced me to James Joyce right at the end of high school and I started reading. I never looked back and my knowledge of Joyce has now far surpassed my father's. The only sad thing is that there are no more books by James Joyce for me to read next.

I love all there songs. They come to mind so fast and just as a test which of these would you know more than the other? "Molly Malone" or "Red Haired Mary"
