Quick commentary I forgot to edit in:
5:00 - the bass I made ended up being aligned with kick while playing root note. Chances are yourâs is not. To adjust it, follow the steps from the next part of the video
It's Exist not Exsis.
The best current way to do sidechain regardless of the note the sub is playing is to do it with ring modulation.
Iâve heard this before can you give a brief explanation or a title to a video to watch?

really cool video! love the precision, been always looking forward to make my basses better sounding
Glad you like it dude! đ feel free to reach out with any questions here đ
Damn man, really nice tip with the velocity to phase trick!
100% will be trying that đ„đ„đ
I need to admit, it can be time consuming (especially for some crazy basslines) but it works and itâs worth it
Lovely video again! What skin are you using for Serum?! Looks awesome
Thanks a lot đ. Itâs by Feed Me. It was available on his website a while ago but I saw it floating around on Reddit đ
The elusive art of making the bass and kick sound great. I now have over 200 bookmarked CZcams videos on the topic, and I'm sure there are at least 5,000 more that I should bookmark! :)
đđ ngl, youâre right
Yo, how u use shaper box for sc? U use midi clip with midi trigger with external instrument or classic mode with audio trigger? As i think, ableton don't repair pdc in ableton 12 and we have problems with plugins delays.
I like to use it with audio trigger but not anymore honestly. Thatâs because of the delay and thatâs also why Chain Shaper is way better solution - no latency at all, even if you put a bunch of plugins before and after
1:40 I'm pretty sure that can be solved by adjusting the release time of the compressor. I don't see how that points out as an advantage of volume shapers compared to regular sidechain compression.
You kinda have a point here, although just look at the curve I made right after. Nothing that fancy but it would be hard to achieve with regular compressor release. Thanks for the comment btw đ
@@Zdrewe Another major thing is that you can make the sidechain trigger with another source. So, the way I do it is by duplicating the kick track and then disable it. Then I can put the audio of the pseudo kick as a trigger for the sidechain. And before I step into the compressor settings, I can edit the audio to get the desired curve result more easily. Many people usually replace the pseudo kick with a short click sound audio clip to replicate the sort of curve you demonstrated in the video.
most of the legendary music we heard from the past did not have "note by note phase fixing". i think if you have a big issue with phase you will hear it and if you don't then don't bother and get on with writing your song : D
it's good to know but most times it's just working against finishing the most important thing => the song
Now it may surprise you butâŠ.
I totally agree with what you said here. Itâs hard to find a balance between being geeky of tiny little details and holding up to the legacy of being an âactualâ artist.
Some do really enjoy being nerdy and I think the best solution is to use those tips once you have the composition done. For example I had this track done but I couldnât get to my preferred loudness level. Once I tried this technique it instantly improved the sound and now I have it scheduled for release at the beginning of July.
Thanks for your insight đ
@@Zdrewe iâm glad to hear you agree :D
I think unfortunately tough most electronic music these days are focused on technical issues and are lacking on attitude and authenticity. I still hear records from early 90âs that i can hear on repeat and have none of this surgical things the new songs have.
Like having a bit of random phase on your bass for instance might actually do good for you, having locked phase can sound like having all notes of a song with the same velocity. There is so much nuance to older records, some of them even sound shit and still the tracks hit a lot harder because their composition is more imaginative and relaxed. Getting into the studio with this mind set unfortunately doesnt happen so often, we are all guilty of this :D
whatâs that oscilloscope bro?
Itâs part of the Chain Shaper M4L device he mentions!
Yup, exactly. Itâs integrated into Chain Shaper đ
Fuser vst is a game changer if you havenât checked it out
Agreed, FUSER is top notch when it comes to layering and blending instruments but honestly when it comes to kick and bass I got better results with this âby handâ method.
@@Zdrewehave you tried the secret adaptive phase mode on it? Canât remember how you activate it but Iâm sure you can find it pretty easily
Oh yeah, the phase fix button is goated đ
