Interesting! I just ordered the 68 Pedals, before seeing this 😄 if they have the right diodes in it it’s crazy value for money. I also ordered the Pedalpcb Paragon pcb and some MA858 diodes. From what I read Analogman uses MA858 plus 1N4148 in newly built KoTs. Will be really interesting to see how similar they sound!

every once in a while guys over on TGP post about how long the wait list is for a KoT. I got on the List back in Oct '18 (if I remember correctly), so i've got a bit of a wait. Maybe a year ago I made the absolute biggest mistake to respond on one of those TGP Threads saying pretty much that aside from being on the wait list, I decided to buy a PCB from Queen of Bone, and build a couple for my own use. I was tagged by Mike himself, where he made all sorts of aggressive sideways comments about me building clones of his KoT to sell ...I corrected him(how dare I) to say that I have no intention of selling (as stated in my original response in the thread). He came back with some of derogatory statements ...I then got a 'warning' from the Moderator about copyright infringement ...and within hours BOTH of my responses, nd Mike's disappeared, along with the PM from the moderators. LOL ...it really cracks me up seeing all these clones all over the place.

How easily does a Fulltone OCD break? Not the first time I’ve read on comments that an OCD pedal failed. I have a V3 (Rico) but I use it sparingly & I bought a Chinese knockoff that sounds great. When I like a pedal I try to buy 2 in case one fails also. I thought I was getting carried away. I guess I am lucky or don’t play as frequently but I have never had a pedal stop working. Can the OCD be repaired or it will cost as much as a new pedal?

I’m sure it can be fixed, the power cuts in and out and it’s the ac Jack not the cable. Also when clicking on, it does that half volume thing until you click it a few times just right. I got back into playing recently and the pedal on this channel has fully replaced the OCD for me. I even bought te new germanium ocd and a klon clone but this pedal is still staying on my board. Socketed op amps for the win! I blew up a 4580 when I unplugged a cable while running cascaded gain into the poor KoT. Replacement was simple and I already had a spare op amp on hand. I have tried out numerous op amps in my KoT and ended up keeping the JRC4580 in the red side. The 5532 was an interesting chip for gain tone but overall the 4580 sounded best to me. On the yellow side I finally settled on a $4 Burr-Brown 2134. It had the smoothest distortion products when overdriven. The runner up was the cheaper $1 CA3240.

If my memory is correct (built more than a year ago), Most people’s use no clipping boost setting into the mid gain setting so the highly sought expensive ma856 don’t even get used. Hi Phil. I have not tried that specific version. DemonFX pedals seem to be hard to ignore for their component selection and price point so I have no doubt it's something to check out

I would buy one of the 68 Pedals Clones (even though they're more expensive (about $45 more) than the DemonFx), but it seems the 68 Pedals brand all ship from China and I can't find any for sale shipping from the USA.
Not sure it matters, but I always had stayed away from overseas shipping because it's more complicated with returns, etc. I am searching for one in Canada or the US. No luck yet. (I see you have a website...Going to check it out!)

I could almost buy one of these good clones cheaper than I could build one...it does suck for the original builder of the 'real' pedal but that's just how the electronics game goes...it pushes them to be innovative and build more unique circuits...look no further than EQD ,they have some of the most unique circuits around and have no problem selling pedals.

Great points! Cool thing with EQD is they are cool with sharing schematics and such it seems (based on how many EQD things show up on pedalPCB) so I think you're definitely right. Need to keep pushing new and innovative things to stay ahead.

Yeah, but as the KoT is itself based on the Marshall bluesbreaker (I believe) it's not exactly original itself, and there's always going to be knockoffs. I don't think the clones hurt analogman anyway, judging by the waiting list. I'm on the list but I'm not sure if I'll buy it when I get to the top, as I already have one of the clones (Joyo king of kings) which cost a quarter of the genuine thing.

Simone Zanoni Yeah, that certainly wouldn't make any sense, but that's not what these caps do; they're actually the main output coupling caps for the output of each side, so it's nice (and unexpected at this price point) that they did that. I just got the DemonFX version of this, which is virtually identical to the 68 (but with carbon film instead of carbon comp resistors in those few places) and the build quality and component selection are very, very good, and it sounds great.

No problem (I personally believe) attempting to improve upon or at least alter in a meaningful way a classic circuit. To copy the appearance with the obvious intent of either boosting the implicit or explicit appeal is at best greasy as hell. Cheap, morally vacant attempt to benefit from someone’s hard work and achievement. Gross. Bottom feeding move. I’m hoping the conclusion of this video is that it’s a piece of garbage.
