This is the biggest issue with modern warfare and our current politcal leaders. In the past, when there were kings and queens as leaders, they went to war and their entire families were on the front lines fighting and defending civilians. That entire equation has changed, what we have now is a system where our world leaders never have to put their lives on the line. They sit from afar and press a button and people die. There is a complete imbalance in what war entails and what is risked by those who call for war.

This is extremely foolish and ignorant of China's history. During the cultural revolution for example, China export its marxist revolutionary teachings to many countries, provide training and arms to native armed groups (thus they are known as maoist revolutionaries), host radio stations within China itself for these maoist forces. For example, the Communist Party of Malaya which fought an insurgency against Malaysia's government has its radio station in hunan China.
This only come to an end when Mao died and Deng took over. He decide that China should build economic ties instead of export marxist revolution and ordered these forces to step down. And they did.
With the way China is going today, who knows if Xi will revive the cultural revolution again and build a cult of personality for himself?

As noted in Haaretz, Netanyahu seems to boast of his knowledge of the US by saying, "I know what America is. America is a thing you can move very easily, move it in the right direction. They won't get in their way."
He also boasts of manipulating the U.S. in the ongoing peace process, as the Washington Post points out:
"They asked me before the election if I'd honor [the Oslo accords]," he said. "I said I would, but ... I'm going to interpret the accords in such a way that would allow me to put an end to this galloping forward to the '67 borders. How did we do it? Nobody said what defined military zones were. Defined military zones are security zones; as far as I'm concerned, the entire Jordan Valley is a defined military zone. Go argue."
America, apparently, is moved by the Israel lobby. Evidence to the contrary has yet to emerge.

It saddens me that these are the kinds of people who don't get into politics. They know too much about how things work to want to waste their time. At best, they'll serve as consultants, but never throw their hats into the running for a seat. They know it's a losing proposition.

Good dialogue but Gita disappoints in not pushing back on John’s well known hawkish views about China’s potential aims in East Asia, I think.

it's not gita's style to push or challenge his guest, he always lets his guest offers their views without being confronted.
for example, 42:00 gita is correct that zionism was not meant to commit genocide, but john wrongly stated that they know from the start they're going to cleanse the palestinian because they couldnt have established a jewish state among palestinians. well, zionism started in late 19th century was to find homeland for the jews, not to establish a jewish state, therefore it's possible to live side by side as long as they're not praticing apartheid as in the original zionism. first generation of aliyah among zionists in 19th century was relatively peaceful, things gotten worse only since balfour declaration and jewish businessmen (rothschild etc) who bought many lands etc.
but then, gita didn't try to debate john either though i think he knows john was wrong here.

@@wawanhermawan-sz7glI’d say, the idea that Jews could live peacefully among Arabs and under the Turkish rule was either totally naive and delusional (which would be strange for such a clever nation) or disguising the real goals. If you want to have Jews settling and living en masse while surrounded by Arabs, you need to carve out a state for them - I suspect, Jews realized this from the beginning just at the initial stages did not proclaim this openly for the obvious reasons.

@@shelonnikgrumantov5061You don't understand Judaism. Jews back then didn't have the idea that there should be a 'Jewish state,' at least until the Messiah comes according to their beliefs. In fact, it's prohibited.
Traditional Jewish belief holds that the establishment of a Jewish state is linked to the arrival of the Messiah and the Messianic age.
