  • In this video I show you how to solder new capacitors into a monitor speaker. This monitor speaker had a terrible buzz (60 Hz). For this video the Mackie MR8 was fixed but this repair can work on any monitor speaker or amplifier that has bad capacitors in it. Usually this situation presents as a bad hum. I have a list of tools used below as well as a link to the site I used to get the parts for this repair project. Have fun and don't forget to Love well!
    *EDIT*
I apologize for the audio at 11:40, I essentially was just putting pressure on either side of the capacitor while heating that sides solder joint. Keep doing this back and forth and each leg will come out more and more until it finally pops free. Then work on the other one.

The capacitors where also a Problem back in the 2000s with some abit boards.. there the caps just popped open.. i turned out some thieves stole the capacitor Fluid recipe from Japan, i Think it was panasonic...
and sold it to chyna factories.. but that recipe was missing a key ingredient.. it was some exotic chemical that kept the Fluid from generating hydrogen when powered up, which in Turn Made zhe caps blow..
thus millions of electronics went kaputt After only a couple years..
For me, i replaced them with the real Panasonic Brand and never had trouble again.. any repair i do is with panasonic caps .. those few Cents more for pan caps really dont matter.. to me atleast.. my recommendation for caps..
    Great guide, thanks

Hey can you let us know how to order the exact capacitor on Mouser? There's a ton of options and I'm certain I'm going to pick the wrong one.

Should you try to discharge any remaining power in them first before removing? Or are they old enough, where it’s not a concern?

Joshua Macfie hey buddy, so I was able to open up the mackie an de solder the two broken capacitors an take them down to our local electronics store an they matched them up for us. I just wanted to thank you for your video as you were the reason we were able to repair our unit. This saved us a ton of money in repair cost. So we can’t thank you enough. Your the best!

Yes, they fired right up with no problem. We used a box cutter to do long slices threw the glue holding them together an it made separating them so much easier. There back to sounding like the champions they are!
