I'm from Japan and honestly when I first saw him on tv I was pretty shocked but he appears on variety programs quite often and the more I've seen of him, the more I've grown to like him. He's really sweet and polite and overall is very likeable and has a good personality, and most importantly he isn't actually pretending to be a different race. I feel like his appearance is more him just looking the way he wants to look, rather than trying to change his race. I'm guessing he chose the name Matt because he wanted a "Geimei" which is essentially a stage name, and it was one that he liked that was reminiscent of his real name.
At the end of the day, it kinda just comes down to whether or not they're respectful, decent human beings because out of Matt and Oli, one of them is while the other very much isn't.
This mentality is dumb. This is still crazy. It doesn't matter if Oli is not polite or likeable and this guy is, they are both doing the same exact thing. Lets nor pretend that there is a difference. This should not be normalized.

If you’re referring to the plastic surgery and you think that shouldn’t be normalized, then we can agree to disagree. I personally think that plastic surgery is fine as long as it doesn’t negatively affect your health, since it really doesn’t do anybody harm and most people are much happier after having surgery. But if you disagree with plastic surgery itself, then that’s your own opinion which you’re entitled to.

This is less worse than Oli's situation, but I feel like I'd need to know more to question Matt's character. At least he didn't get surgery to essentially be racially ignorant. Hm, I dunno but he isn't extremely problematic and I don't think he's claiming to be white or any other race.

The main and biggest difference between this guy, that korean lady who wants to look like that western model, that brazilian guy who wants the asian aesthetic and oily london is that they dont claim to be another ethnicity/race. I downloaded an asian beauty app some time ago just for fun. Long story short, after a couple sliders I looked barely human. I used that to scare all my friends into having nightmares about me.
So, I was staring at Matt for a few hours now. It doesn't seem that he had a lot of plastic surgery. I see an eyeshadow technique used in jrock a lot mixed with gyaru. He also might use eyelid stickers/glue.
His under eye bags are make up too.
His eyebrows are shaped and also make up. Lips and nose look super fine and normal, same as jaw and chin. A shading powder can do the trick.
I actually believe he is really good in makeup and wears stickers and circle lenses with 15mm diameter.
In the brand photos you can see very well that he still has his japanese eyes.
He is NOT a japanese Oil London.
He is an artist to me, not some plastic surgery wannabe caucasian if that makes sense.
