    Just ordered this and the brace support from your etsy store! I have the leatherman skeletool cx with the 154cm knife that I can't sharpen properly on the precision adjust because the clamp was too deep. It just couldn't properly hold on to the blade so every stroke of the diamond stone would cause it to move from its position. After finding your etsy store, I was overwhelmed with excitement knowing that I had finally found some products that fixed the very specific problem I've been having! So thank you man. I just received my magnet attachment today and it works pretty well. I would recommend printing thicker blade stops maybe twice as thick. Some blades have funny bevels on the top edge. The magnet seems to be strong enough to hold medium to small size blades. The magnetic force takes a little getting use to when actually stroking the diamonds across the blade. I like the idea of the painter's tape, but I was considering some double sided tape to catch the filings that the magnet attracts to the material the knife sits on. Instead of building up there, it could be removed with the double sided tape.

    Hmm... the issue I see with that magnet setup is the centerline of the blade (spine to edge) isn't parallel with the angle gauge because of the hollow grind, so the actual grind angle is going to be steeper than what the gauge says. The OEM clamp would be more likely to hold it so those lines are parallel.

    • @Practical3DP
      @Practical3DP  Před rokem +1

      There are ways to compensate. You can use the front fence to make the blade parallel. Alternatively, you can subtract the angle of the primary bevel.

    Apparently, he does NOT know about angles, establishment of angles and what are the factors in changing angles. Moving the edge, relative to the contact point of the the rod -- its contact point (in space) most definitely changes the angle of the stone relative to the blade cutting edge angle. Also, remember that the whole point of being able to rotate the entire knife through the push-button on the back of the stone/rod holder is one of the hallmarks of this Worksharp system.

    • @Practical3DP
      @Practical3DP  Před rokem

      I know that this is not a perfect replacement for the rotating mechanism. However, the stock clamp does not fit well on all types of pocket knives. That’s what this is for.
      It’s very possible to use this and get a sharp knife. Myself and many others have done it. It does take a little effort but after you know what your doing you can get repeatable results. You have to develop a technique depending on the blades. Also, I have updated the fence to make alignment easier.

    No offense, but out of the entire video the only thing I found useful was the angle-finder. I've seen some of the 3D printed aftermarket stuff you make for the Work Sharp Precision Adjust over at your Ebay, and a couple of items look useful... like the Universal 4-6" Stone Holder and the desk/table clamp... but the other stuff imho is just unnecessary if you use the Work Sharp with care. I have the Work Sharp Precision Adjust (Elite) and my blades, all the way from my pocket knives, to kitchen knives, to fighting knives are razor sharpened and polished without the need for those expensive plastic thingamajigs. Can't knock you for trying to make a buck, though, and I do admit your addons required some thought and skill with a 3D printer. I also understand that materials for that printer ain't cheap, so the price for 3D printed stuff is often rather steep. (I'll never spend $300 again for a Rebel vape mod! LOL)

    Hi Seth. I bought your new version and I have a question about the angle meter. Do I still zero it on the base of the attachment or on the blade itself? If I place it on the blade and zero it, I run out of adjustment on the worm drive. The blade is beveled so it's not a flat surface. What do you recommend?

    • @Practical3DP
      @Practical3DP  Před rokem

      There are different mounting positions on the attachment. So you can raise or lower it on the arm. This allows for more angle range. Also you can use the front fence to tilt the blade upwards. This isn’t necessary though.
      For the angle. Since your blade has a big primary bevel that will attach to the magnet, follow this procedure. Zero on the attachment itself. Next place the gauge on the primary bevel on the knife. Take note of the angle. For this example, let’s say 10 degrees. Now, you want your knife to have a 15DPS edge bevel. Place the gauge on the sharpening rod. Adjust the WS so it says 25 degrees. You’re doing this to compensate for the primary bevel and will have a true edge bevel of 15DPS or 30 inclusive.
      If you have more questions please contact me on Etsy. That way I can show you illustrations.

    I've got the Presicion Adjust and am looking into your magnetic holder to hold on to my whittling knives, which have a really small blade, that is just impossible to grip with the standard clamp. (www.flexcut.com/assets/ProductImages/JKN91-out.png) would your clamp be able to hold onto a small straight edge blade like that?
    By exchanging the stone for a rod, It should also be possible to sharpen the curved blade....

      I find that depending on how the blade is shaped, the limitation is around 0.5”. Measuring from spine to blade apex. If you were to try it and it does not work with your knives, I’ll gladly process a return.

      @@Practical3DP Thanks for the swift reply. I'll consider it, especially since I see a lot of options for customizing the two adjustable fences. shipping to europe is a bit pricey though, have you considered licensing your 3D design and letting people print their own ?
