    I was thrilled to see that you also set your clamp lamp on top of your aquarium! I do that, too! I used a $10 Feit Houseplant bulb; (these have gone up in price now that they have light spectrum settings on them). Do you use any particular kind of bulb? I couldn't afford a large $$$ aquarium light, but I had a dozen clamp lamps in a box I got super cheap from a wholesaler years ago. I was only going to use these as a temporary solution until I could save enough money for a "real" aquarium light. But they ended up working just fine. I love how easily adjustable these lamps are.
    I chuckled when you said that you use a bamboo skewer to poke around your tank. I have 2 of them, and they are very useful little tools! Great minds think alike!😁
    I wanted to add that Amano shrimp and snails are great for eating the dead roots and keeping the tank tidy. I like Nerite snails the best of all the snails. They don't become pests, and they keep the aquarium glass immaculate. I have one in every tank. I cannot say enough good things about Amano shrimp. They are like the "dentists" of planted tanks - constantly cleaning detritus and keeping the plants cleaned and healthy. ❤🦐🐌🌿

    Thank you for this video. I just bought one of these plants and was wondering if it can be used. When I can take a cutting I'll add it to my tank.

    I have a goldfish tank at room temperature, usually around 70 ish degrees. At what temperature would this be a viable project? I'd really like to try this.

      Room temperature as you mentioned is fine. I have grown these plants successfully with no heater. Keep an eye on the goldfish to make sure they don’t damage the plant roots !

    Would you recommend planing house plants roots into a container in a tank with aquasoil or nothing at all?

    • @plantlifeproject
      @plantlifeproject  Před rokem

      You can use gravel, lava rock, aqua soil as a substrate or you can grow most plants with just the roots in the water. Check out this video czcams.com/video/lf50fhCCSX4/video.html

    What are your thoughts on potatoes grown in tank. I have two growing in my tank along with other house plants. Roots and stems grow about 1in per day. They are extremely fast growing and are quickly becoming a large mass in my tank. Out growing my other plants.Have you tested potatoes effectiveness on Nitrate in tank?.

    • @plantlifeproject
      @plantlifeproject  Před rokem +2

      I assume you are talking about sweet potato? Any plant that is actively growing leaves is taking up nitrogen (ammonia, nitrates, etc). If they are growing 1 inch per day then that is taking up a good amount of it from the tank! Personally, I’m ok with large root mass in my tank as long as it does not appear to crowd the fish. If you have a lot of fish then it could potentially become an issue with space. You could try to trim some of the roots and leaves to manage the size if you are concerned. Or remove the sweet potatoes entirely if they are too big and start over again with cuttings. If you remove the overgrown plants and start over, I recommend testing the water a few times a week to make sure your ammonia or nitrates don’t spike. This will also give you an idea of how effective they are at nitrogen removal and/or give the other plants a chance to catch up! Hope this helps! What kind of light are the potatoes getting?

    • @adammiller2298
      @adammiller2298 Před rokem

      @@plantlifeproject I think you're right; as plants grow slowly over time, getting a “good / obvious” test result on a API color chart may be difficult to see small changes. But to remove just the sweet potato then test might show a measurable difference/contribution the sweet potato is making -- I have a Fluval light on tank. A LED grow light for Pothos. When the Potato plant passed the height of the LED light, I added a clip on above it with the GE grow light bulb. This tank is a 20gal with a Betta, 4 shrimp and 2 Tettras. I am adding fertilizer to make up for light bio-load. I ordered a Hang on back breeder box that I can turn into a planter. Here I would like to try Peace Lily in it. Awesome Videos!

    Hello, probably won’t see this but are anthurium completely safe for fish and other animals in aquarium? I know they are dangerous if animals eat the leaves and such.
    Thanks, helpful vid.

      I have a video about this topic coming out next Saturday! Anthurium is safe to grow in a fish tank from my experience. I have not had any problems with it being toxic for fish or snails.

    Does pruning pothos make the main root system grow faster? coz i want to reach the bottom of my tank

    • @plantlifeproject
      @plantlifeproject  Před rokem

      I’m not sure if that works. I give the plants plenty of light and time to grow and as long as they are getting enough nutrients from the water, the Pothos roots grow down to the substrate. If they are not growing very much, liquid fertilizer for aquarium plants is an option.

    Do you have to fertilize or do they just get the nutrients from the tank ? Thanks in advance

    • @plantlifeproject
      @plantlifeproject  Před rokem

      Depends on how much waste the fish are producing. Sometimes I have to fertilize in certain tanks with lower stocking levels

    I bought a grow light because there is not alot of sun light where the tank is at. I have the timer set to 8 hours a day or the white light setting...will bright light kill the plants? A ceiling fan will harm the plants? Are red and blue lights beneficial for growth?

    • @plantlifeproject
      @plantlifeproject  Před 8 měsíci

      White light should be fine but full spectrum can be good too, 8 hrs should be enough. If the plant leaves ever look “burned” then that would Be too much intense light but I haven’t had this problem even with all the different lights I’ve used. Ceiling fans are fine, I have them running constantly in the rooms with plants and tanks. Check out this video about lighting

    • @plantlifeproject
      @plantlifeproject  Před 3 lety +2

      On this tank, the Pothos is long enough that I used a spring clamp attached to a glass shelf above to hold the vine which is hanging down and the leaves are reaching upward towards the light above it

      Many Riparium plants are toxic to humans and pets if ingested, like Peace Lily, Pothos, anthurium, lucky bamboo, anthurium, but they are not a problem for fish. I grow all of these in my tanks with no problems
