- The Financial Stability Oversight Council (FSOC) is responsible for preventing another financial crisis and had 36 employees at its peak.
Congresswoman Katie Porter asked Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin a simple question: "How many people work at FSOC today?"
It took him two minutes to actually give a number: ~10
This guy can't even answer a simple question. How many? "Is it a secret?" God bless this woman! May she live long and prosper and always keep her sense of humor and whip smart ability to pin down these liars.
Because it's not a simple answer, it's a multi-agency advisory group which a small core of dedicated staff that draws upon much larger resources from both within Treasury and other agencies. The question is misleading because she only wants the dedicated staff which does not provide the complete picture.

@@mikeclement4029 It actually IS a really simple answer. He just refused to provide it without cushioning this devastatingly small number in a bunch of context that he hoped would soften the blow. At the end he gives an answer, and it is a very simple one. "About 10 people". If he was unafraid of the answer, he would just give it. But because he is afraid of what her follow up questions and points will be, he refused to give it. Pathetic.

Financial research is valuable, but he didn't say what the other options were, so the use of the money may actually be going to something better. I don't think we can really say without knowing the other options.

not a single one of these 45 appointees will answer a question directly, this means that they're 1. hiding something, 2. involved in something nefarious, 3. on someone else's payroll, 4. owned by a foreign agent or any combination of the above if not all. I hope when 45's term is over and all these appointees are "released" from their jobs, that the federal government brings them each to trial then sends them to the proper holes in gitmo. No revolving door with corporations, never eligible for another job in the government (unless it's stamping license plates in a prison), stripped of everything they obtained by selling out our nation, and left to rot. His tactic is to dismantle any kind of regulation that could hurt his buddies working at investment banks like Goldman Sachs and others. That's his sole purpose here. To make large financial corporations richer and giving them access to the government, making laws and rules in their favour while removing or sabotaging any kind of oversight.

We've learned two important things. First, somehow our financial stability has become less important as of late. And second, Mnuchin is productive approximately 1/120 or 0.8333333% of the time and the rest is just hot air.
It has to be exhaustive working that hard to avoid getting to the point.
