Saheena is essentially a West Indian vegan, spinach fritter. Made with flour or ground split peas, spices and seasonings, it comes together quickly and so delicious. It is a popular snack/Trinidad street food eaten with mango or tamarind chutney.

WITH LOVE AND BEST DISHES,
RIA B.
I have never used yeast in sahena..but I used it after seeing the video and I was very pleased with the result. It was lighter and remained crispy for a longer time. I will be doing it like this from now on. Thank you
Appreciate your feedback. Others will certainly benefit. Thanks.
Looks yummy love from Australia
Karmini, is your "yeast-free" recipe similar, just without the yeast?
YUM
I dont mean to be off topic but does anyone know a way to log back into an Instagram account?
I was dumb lost the password. I appreciate any help you can offer me

wow !!!!! spinach Pakoda looksSo yummy
Yes please to see the rolled version. Can I also request for pepper sauce recipe please Aunty. I’m British Bangladeshi but I feel so close to Trinidad in terms of people and food. I love it. We have so much similarities in terms of the names of our food and the utensils we use (even their names)
So nice to see all your relatives getting together and participating in the kitchen. Wish my relatives were living near me . Miss them very much . Whenever I go to India we all get together and cook like this. Your video brought tears to my eyes as my aunt has so much resemblance with your aunt. Never used yeast in my bhajis. Looks similar to palak pakora though I use besan (gram flour). Is the pui saag from your garden Ria? I love Pui saag .
Hi Bumbi. I know the feeling. We don’t get together as much nowadays due to the circumstances. I hope you will be reunited with your family soon. Sending love and hugs. Yes, the poui and eddoes leaves were from my garden. I was experimenting with the latter and it turned out great. Like others, had no idea that the leaves of the eddoes plant were edible until my aunt picked it and said to use it. Btw I don’t know what you call eddoes India?
Thanks my dear Ria. I also haven’t seen edoes leaves before.
Tia thank you for all your recipes with such detailed makes my life much easier to achieve a much better cook method.
Yummm!! I’m fiji-Indian and my mum would call this bhaijia but call saina the one the is rolled. For bhaijia mum will use chopped spinach but saina has to be taro leaves and has smears the leaves with a spice paste, then it is rolled up.
I'm from Suriname and I don't know bhajija. No one in the family made this vegetarian delicacy. Know saheena and it is also made in Suriname from an urdi spice paste which is spread on a taro leaf. My mother used large taro leaves. She cut off the thick veins of each leaf, so that the leaf was divided in two. She smeared 1 half leaf with the paste, put another half leaf on it, which she also smeared, the top leaf was not smeared. She made a layer of 4 or 5 half leaves and cut pieces across the width of the leaf and fried the pieces in hot oil.
Enjoy watching your videos bring back memories love the unity of families

🇹🇹🇺🇸NY
I always admire it more whenever you have your Aunts involved in cooking with you. I like when the older folks share their knowledge of cooking. Beautiful. I don't think this is known in Guyana but I'm not sure. It's looking real delicious and satisfying. I love tamarind or mango sour.😁🙏😁🇬🇾👍❤
Thanks! Wish I could have them on more but because of Covid we’ve had to distance ourselves! Appreciate you stopping by!
I am definitely going to make this for sure!!! Thanks Ria!!😊❤️😊
Tried the sahena again using the yeast...so the 1st time was not a fluke because it came out great again. I forgot to mention that I used split peas powder both times. Just goes to show that you're never too old to learn new tricks. Thanks again👌👌
