  • Sofonisba Anguissola (1532 - 1625) is not your average Renaissance artist - she's a total trailblazer! Imagine this: a time when girls and women barely got a foot in the door of the art world. But Sofonisba? She kicked down those doors and made a name for herself as a court painter for a royal court, and was informally mentored by Michelangelo! 🤯 Join us on this journey as we dive into Sofonisba's incredible story.

I just discovered your channel, and I am delighted! When Sofonisba was 92, years old, 24-year-old Anthony van Dyck painted her portrait, depicting her (as I see it) as a dignified, sensitive elderly woman who never lost her sense of humor. Van Dyck later said that from this conversation he learned more about painting than at any other time in his life.
