    I just joined a new band and am learning our songs. I’m starting simple but will use this lesson to move from simple root 5th octave to more complex lines as I get more comfortable with the chord changes. Thanks

    I love this series. Please, keep going with it! Even though the core concept remains the same, you could use each new chord progression to demonstrate new rhythms and ideas for connecting one chord to the next. Talking about what the drums are doing and how you are playing on or around the kick would be cool too. You rock! Thanks, Dan.

    Hi Dan, Thanks so much for the tutorial, most on CZcams claim that you dont need to know the pentatonic scale, arpeggios.. and its relative keys are so important in the feel and grove.. thanks so much for all your time and effort in making such awesome videos.

    I learned so much, especially that little trick of R - 3 -7 ie Bb-Dd-Ab but using the chord shape. I mean, I should have thought of that, but I didn't :) I just opened a little bit more. I certainly can't wait to get that Vidami peddle for this --slowing down and looping. Just spent 3 hours with your video ..

    Thanks for another great lesson. Could you help clear up some confusion on my part? I thought the 4th mode was Lydian however you referred to the 4th note in this case as Bb Dorian. What am I missing? Thanks in advance!

    • @OnlineBassCourses
      @OnlineBassCourses  Před 6 měsíci +2

      No problem! Fourth mode of the major scale is Lydian but the fourth mode is Dorian if you’re in a minor key (which is Aeolian or natural minor).

    Dan, thank you for yet another incredibly useful video filled with clear and concise instruction and information. You are by far the best bass instructor on CZcams!
    In my mind I see this as a vi ii I ii progress in Ab, as I’m familiar with the modes and chord tones in relation to the major key. Trying to think of this in the key of F minor is throwing me off a bit. I realize that Fm is the relative minor of Ab, but what determines when you would refer to the key as Fm as opposed to Ab. In terms of the number system would this progression then be described as i v III v in Fm?

    • @OnlineBassCourses
      @OnlineBassCourses  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Thanks so much for the kind support! I think it’s fine either way to be honest. If the chords are centred around a ‘home’ of F, if go for minor, and if it’s Ab, I’d go Ab major. It’s flexible though and you end up with the same chords and modes as you say. I tend to go minor if there are more minor chords and F Minor Pentatonic seems to ‘fit’ better. Your way works perfectly too.

    • @MikeGuerr
      @MikeGuerr Před 6 měsíci +1

      @@OnlineBassCourses thanks this is helpful. Just so I’m sure that I understand, this progression can be described as a i v III v in Fm… correct? If so, then I’ve got some work to do so that this will come naturally to me when a progression is described to me in numbers and we’re in a minor key.

    • @OnlineBassCourses
      @OnlineBassCourses  Před 6 měsíci +1

      @@MikeGuerr I actually often do think of it your way too you know and I think a lot of people do. But, if you want to know it in F Minor, the Fm is i, the Bbm is iv (not v) and the A is III. The v would be Cm.

    Have you ever had issues with your left wrist hurting? I play a lot of bass but recently my left wrist has given up on me, I regret not playing with a more straight wrist during all my years and I pray that it will heal

    • @OnlineBassCourses
      @OnlineBassCourses  Před 6 měsíci

      I haven’t, no. All I can say is don’t play through the pain barrier. You can start to try and address that left wrist by refining your technique. Maybe it’s even how you hold the bass, I’m not sure… it will be tough to do after all these years but possible! Good luck.

  • @LennyG-TPFL
    @LennyG-TPFL Před 6 měsíci +1

    So if you play Bb Dorian instead of Bb7 is the only differnce that you're getting a raised 6th G (2nd of Fm)?

    • @OnlineBassCourses
      @OnlineBassCourses  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Bb7 is the arpeggio - 1 3 5 7 notes of the Bb Dorian mode (in this example). So the Dorian mode gives you those arpeggio notes but also the 2 4 and 6. It helps to think of them as working together. You have lots of options!
