3 Day Catch and Cook Wild Camping Challenge U.K. Day 1

- If we want to eat it we have to catch and cook it. @Wild Ginger Bruce and myself start our three day challenge of hunting, foraging and wild camping. Hammocks were the choice as the ground has been hammered by some really bad weather. Bruce is a bushcraft instructor as well as a mountain leader which came in very handy when looking for wild edibles.
It was a great start and a proper laugh.
I would highly recommend checking out Bruces channel he is a knowledgeable man despite have a face like a depressed hillside.
I myself am no Zachary Fowler but what I lack in skills I make up for in looks

hi guys just come across your channel great video and good knowledge....was good to see you cooking on a proper fire. I am planning a week long hike and wanted to try a bit of cooking without bringing a stove etc as thats a bit too much of a luxury item, however apparently its not allowed to have an open fire in the countryside, do you ever get busybodies giving you any grief? do you have any tips for avoiding hassle when cooking like this? I know beaches are the best bet but i will be camping inland? thanks!
Best advice is be respectful and discreet dude. Don't start too early. Small fire sit close and make sure it's safe. Dig/clear out and make sure you can extinguish if needed. Leave no trace. Personally I favour twig stoves/fire boxes or DIY stoves if I'm on my own

Good to know you were in the safe hands of the Auburn one. I think we all saw that episode of QI about the rabbit only menu. Roadkill is still food. Those who are too fussy starve. when I was a youth I worked on the mainland opposite the Isle near and in Lymington. Roger the Rabbit definitely looking rough. (gypsy : "Rabbits foot sir?" ...me: "Didn't exactly do much for the luck of the bunny did it").

In my back garden I have holly plants that climb up the garden wall. In winter they produce a mas of berries. Though these berries are toxic to humans, they attract wood pigeons who eat the berries. I was wondering whether the berries could be used to make a trap to lure pigeons in for you hunt them with your catapult.
You are not allowed to bait for wild birds Stevo, also during the winter months the pigeon meat takes on a bitter taste due to the berries. There are many places to get a few pigeons unfortunately not near my camps lol.
Is this the definition of the difference between edible and eatable?

@@AlexDavidsonOutdoors I had them waiting mate bit last resort (not a huge fan). Longnet and ferts were also an option but as we didnt go without I kept them in the bank.
