    Crystal clear, thank you. Tip - I was taught to put a tiny amount of the rooting powder/gel onto a saucer and dip the cuttings in that. Discard any surplus. Reason - if your cutting has a disease you are transferring into the rooting powder/gel pot and subsequent cuttings may get infected.

    Hello
    I live in Canada where the summer is very short and winter is harsh. I have seven climatis in my garden and love them dearly!!!! Can I make the pots and keep them inside the house until next may to be transferred to the garden?

    • @MarkLaneDesigns
      @MarkLaneDesigns  Před 2 lety

      Hi Narges, thank you for your email. Clematis are hardy plants. Do you know which ones you have? They will not like being inside, unless they are young plants. You will need to keep the soil moist, but not wet (in other words hold back on watering too much), and ideally leave them on a bright windowsill. If you have a coldframe they will be happy in there until May, but if the ground isn't frozen yet, you can still plant them. Once planted, you can add a top dressing of compost c.10cm thick to act like a winter duvet, and then come the spring they will start to grow again. I hope this helps. Regards Mark

    • @MarkLaneDesigns
      @MarkLaneDesigns  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi Felicity, preferably on new shoots that have not flowered, but if your clematis is in full flower then either wait until the autumn and take semi-hardwood stems and do exactly the same or wait and keep an eye out for any new shoots.

    • @MarkLaneDesigns

      You really need somewhere warm, and heat after propagation helps speed up root development

      In exactly the same way, but as most large flowering clematis flower early summer, you will need to take cuttings in March.

    • @MarkLaneDesigns
      @MarkLaneDesigns  Před 2 lety +2

      As the roots form they split as they hit the pot creating more roots, which means a happy plant

    • @MarkLaneDesigns
      @MarkLaneDesigns  Před 4 lety +4

      Always worth a try. If you can give the plant in the pot some heat from below it will help. You can try a homemade version: Honey Rooting Hormone Recipe
      Boil two cups of water.
      Add a tablespoon of organic honey (you can use processed if it’s all you have).
      Mix together and let the solution cool to room temperature.
      When cool, dip your cuttings into the mixture and continue the propagating process.

    • @andrewjames6676
      @andrewjames6676 Před 4 lety +2

      I've done it 3 times without rooting hormone and it worked. The clematis in question was growing very strongly, so maybe hormone is useful for weaker growing plants.
