  • The Nemo Equipment Aurora Highrise 6P has quickly become the favorite tent for my family to use for our camping adventures. This is a full review after 1 year of hard use with the tent. This tent is fully featured and has plenty of space for a family to be comfortable out on a camping trip. This just might be the best camping tent we've ever used for family camping trips.

    I’ve got this tent too and the ability to use tarp poles and make an awning was so cool!

    I got this tent early in the year to replace a 20+ year old eureka. On the very first trip in the red river gorge in Kentucky the wind picked up while I was out hiking and it ripped the guy lines clean off the tent (the fabric loops ripped right off the tent body) and the tent got thrown into the river, along with all my stuff. Some good samaritans rescued my things, but the tent was a complete loss. I had it staked down in every single spot, with the stakes angled 45 degrees outwards, and everything closed, tensioned, etc. I was using snow peak 12" solid steel stakes. The fact that I did everything right and the wind simply ripped the guy line loops off the tent was very concerning. Prospective users beware... Luckily I got it from rei so they accepted my return. Been using an rei basecamp 6 ever since and love it!

      DANG!!! That's a huge bummer. We had a Wagontop that got completely wrecked by a wind storm a couple years back. I can't imagine your experience is common place. But doesn't change the fact that it probably sucked and left a bad taste.

      Do you think the Basecamp 4 would be overkill for a solo woman on road trips? Had one years ago when they first came out. It's more to set up and take down compared to a small 2 person tent, but it would provide a comfortable abode away from home. Trying to figure out if it's worth it.

    Also look to Kelty for blankets to protect your tent floors from kids and dogs. I use a couple of their Jeanie blankets for my tents. They have a pattern of one side and are waterproof on the other side. Kelty also has corduroy blankets, synthetic blankets, down blankets, etc., which are reasonably priced and all washable and great for families. Definitely worth a look if you don’t own one yet. Love family camping!

    Great tent. I was looking into the Wagontop from Nemo. I'm sure the high rise can handle more serious weather by its design n we know it's childproof lol

      Thanks! The Wagontop has been discontinued. We've also been using the Wagontop 8P for several years, but it ultimately lost a battle with a windstorm and got pretty beat up. Still usable, but a lot of holes in the body fabric. That tent is awesome, but I like the highrise a little more.

    Wow that is a really decent price for a 6p tent! Great overview! I think you’ve got a great series going with the car camping vids. Def an inspiration for me and my vids. I’m curious how you baton down the hatches for wind? Ik you had another one in the past that the wind trashed. Do you have a bunch of guy lines you stake down? Do you need a drone permit for the X1?

    • @BackcountryExposure
      @BackcountryExposure  Před 8 měsíci +2

      Thanks! There are additional guy out points at each pole.
      The X1 is under the 250g weight for a drone, so can be flown without needing a license. But obviously follow general drone laws and rules.

    I bought and returned that tent. It's a great tent but I really wanted to see zippers on those side windows for wind driven rain.

    What are the stakes like that come with the tent? Are they good or would they need to be replaced?

  • @davidcooper8390

    Is the Nemo blanket(s) you use to protect/cover the floor cover the entirety of the floor area or just a portion of it?

    • @BackcountryExposure
      @BackcountryExposure  Před 8 měsíci +1

      The once we've got is a little bigger than the tent floor, but it covers the entire space. It's the victory blanket.

    I am surprised that a driving rain on those side windows kept the interior dry. Are their drainage holes at the bottom of the window so rainwater does not pool. (Sorry, I am a bit sceptical)

      @@BackcountryExposure Massive internal roominess, full coverage rain fly that have many different partial roll-up options for ventilation, pockets everywhere, and overall great weather protection. Fit a family of 5 and a dog with room to spare.

    Kodiak Canvas tents are the king of car camping tents. This Nemo tent is embarrassing in comparison.

    • @BackcountryExposure
      @BackcountryExposure  Před 8 měsíci +1

      I’ll agree to disagree. Canvas tents are in a league of their own. Both are excellent options.

      @@BackcountryExposure I wanted the "king" of camping tents and literally looked at all options...canvas won easily and was the best decision I have ever made. It's a Taj Mahal and can hold up to all weather conditions. No shock cord to allegedly hold out rain and wind. It will hold up to all conditions. Especially in the spring in Canyonlands where the wind has destroyed multiple tents similar to this nemo.
