A single individual is enough for hope to exist, and that individual can be you, says His Holiness Pope Francis in this searing TED Talk delivered directly from Vatican City. In a hopeful message to people of all faiths, to those who have power as well as those who don't, the spiritual leader provides illuminating commentary on the world as we currently find it and calls for equality, solidarity and tenderness to prevail. "Let us help each other, all together, to remember that the 'other' is not a statistic, or a number," he says. "We all need each other."

Damn that's some next level Popeing. I was an Altar Boy as a kid, and I knew priests like this. I was never abused, and although I drifted away from the church's dogma, this type of sentiment always stayed with me. Hearing such a loving and inclusive message from the very top is terrific to hear.

All the Vatican 2 catholics say it's too confusing, I don't understand, it's confusing ! Or the mass is enough, no, it's not enough. You must have the true Catholic faith.
There is nothing confusing about it !!!
Pope Gregory the 16th 1831 let nothing of the truths that have been defined, it be lessened, nothing altered nothing added, but let them be preserved intact in the word and then meaning.
Vatican Council of 1870 session 3 chapter 4 part 13 and 14 EX cathedra -- for the doctrine of the faith which God has revealed is put forward not as some philosophical Discovery capable of being perfected by human intelligence but as a Divine deposit committed to the spouse of Christ to be Faithfully protected and infallibly promulgated hence to that meaning of the sacred dogmas is ever to be maintained which has once been declared by holy mother church and there must never be any abandonment of this sense under the pretext or in the name of a more profound understanding.
Pope Leo 13 - Satis Cognitum # 13, 1896. You are not to be looked upon as holding the true Catholic faith if you do not teach the faith of Rome is to be held.
Pope Pius10th syllabus condemning the errors of the modernists 1907 article 62 : the proposition the chief articles of the Apostles Creed did not have the same sense for the Christians of the first stages as they have for the Christians of our time is hereby condemned as erroneous.
St John of the Cross 1591 wherefore if there be revealed to us anything new or different we must in no way give consent to it not even though it were spoken by an Angel.
St. Thomas Aquinas doctor of the church 1274 all those who deny one Article of Faith regardless of their reason are by that very fact excommunicated.
Pope Eugene the fourth Council of Florence Session 8 1439 ex cathedra whoever Wills to be saved before all things it is necessary that he holds the Catholic faith unless a person keeps this Faith whole and undefiled without doubt He Shall Perish eternally.
Pope Leo 13th 1896 the practice of the church has always been the same as is shown by the unanimous teaching of the fathers who were want to hold as outside Catholic communion and alien to the church whoever would recede in the least degree from any point of Doctrine proposed by her authoritative magisterium.
Council Florence session 11 February 4th 1442 ex cathedra the Holy Roman Church condemns reproves anathematize has and declares to be outside the body of church which is the Catholic Church whoever holds opposing or contrary views.
Pope Saint Leo the Great, Doctor of the Church, 440- 461 A.D. - the faith shall never vary in any age for one is the faith which justifies the just of all ages it is unlawful to differ even by a single word from Apostolic Doctrine.
Pope Leo 10th, 5th lateran Council session 8th 1513 EX cathedra and since truth cannot contradict the truth we Define that every statement contrary to the enlightened truth of the faith is totally false and we strictly forbid teaching otherwise to be permitted we decree that all those who cling to erroneous statements of this time thus sowing heresies which are wholly condemned should be avoided in every way and punished as detestable and odious Heretics and infidels who are undermining the Catholic faith.
Saint Athanasius, died 373 AD. God's word is one and the same in the doors forever unchanged always the same
Pope Pius 9th, Qui Pluribus I'm faith and religion November 9th 1846 paragraph 20 never cease to instruct all men in it never tolerating and letting pass anyting which could in the slightest degree defiled the purity of this faith. What the same great strength of Mind Foster and all men their Unity with the Catholic church outside of which there is no salvation.
Pope Saints Sixtus 3,432 A.D. nothing new is to be allowed for nothing can be added to the old look for the faith of the elders and do not let our faith be disturbed by a mixture of new doctrines
St Vincent of Lerins 445 A.D., all novelty in faith is a sure Mark of heresy. Saint Paul Cried Out aloud again and again to all men to all times and to all places that if anyone announces a new doctrine let him be anathematized excommunicated.
Ecclesiastics 18:5 - nothing maybe taken away or added.
Pope Pius X, 1903-1914 A.D., Oath against Modernism - and so I retain most firmly the faith of the fathers and shall retain it until the final Breath of Life regarding the certain Gifts of Truth which is was and will always be in the succession of the episcopacy from the apostles not so that what may seem better and more fitting according to each one's period of culture may be held but so that the absolute and immutable truth preached by the apostles from the beginning may never be believed otherwise may never be understood otherwise !!!
Galatians 1:8 - but though we are an angel from heaven preach a gospel to you besides that which we have preached to you let him be anathema excommunicated from the church
Proverbs 30:6, add nothing to his words lest you be reproved and found a liar.
St Thomas Aquinas doctor of the church died 1274 A.D - Our faith is identical with that of the ancients. Deny this and you dissolve the unity of the church !! we must hold this for certain that the faith of the people at the present day is one with the faith of the people of past centuries !!! were this not true then we would be in a different Church then they and literally the church would not be one !!!
Saint Cyril of Alexandria doctor of the church died 444, A.D. - for it is not allowable for anyone to change even one word, nor allow one syllable to be passed over mindful of the saying : past not beyond the ancient bounds which thy fathers have set !!!
If there is a change YOU ARE NOT TO SUPPORT IT OR embrace it IN ANY WAY !!!
There is no confusion unless you're a heretic and belong to the vatican 2 fake church, there is no confusion for true Catholics, I'll say that again there is no confusion for the true Catholics the teachings of the church are simple and clear. Nothing is to be changed !!!!! Nothing !! If you disagree with this your excommunicated from the church you no longer are Catholic you no longer have a father in Heaven !!!

There is Difference between Eternal Salvation and Temporal Sanctification/Discipleship . Are the words/concepts “Believer” and “Disciple” synonymous?. Questions: Are all ‘believers’ disciples? And: Are all ‘disciples’ believers?. Many say - and strongly advocates that ALL “genuine believers” are “Disciples”. If someone genuinely believes, he will go on to become a “FULL FLEDGED” FOLLOWER of CHRIST. IN FACT, for most say, a person has to “COMMIT” to BEING A DISCIPLE in order to be SAVED. And subsequently has to live a life of “SIGNIFICANT DISCIPLESHIP” in order to PROVE that he/she “REALLY MEANT IT” or “SINCERELY AND GENUINELY COMMITTED TO DISCIPLESHIP” at the time of “coming to Faith” or it was not “SAVING FAITH”. But, actually the correct answer to both questions is “No” or the answer to NEITHER QUESTION IS “YES”. Not all believers are disciples AND not all disciples are believers.
The word “believer” simply means a person who holds something to be true. In this context, a “believer’ is someone who believes in/on Jesus, The Christ and therefore has Eternal Life. The word “disciples” simply means ‘learner’ or ‘follower’. In this context a Disciples is someone who learns from Christ and follows Him (i.e. obeys the commands of the Scriptures). Of course, we know from Scripture that there were lots of people who believed in Jesus but who did not ‘follow Him’ or ‘learn from Him’. The “Thief on the Cross” would be the classic example. He clearly believed in/on Jesus but had no opportunity to become a “disciple” of Christ. For a larger context example, one could look at the Christians in the Church at Corinth. Many of those “believers” were clearly not ‘disciples/followers’ or had any interest in ‘learning about Him and/or how to follow the commands of Jesus. They were believers in Christ. They were not disciples of Christ. John 8:28-39 describes “Believers” in Yeshua who had not YET become “disciples” of Yeshua. Judas Iscariot is the classic example of a Disciple of Christ who was not a Believer in Christ. John 6:60-66 explicitly describes ‘disciples’ (followers of Yeshua) who were not “believers” in Yeshua.
The entire FOCUS changes if one realizes that Eternal Salvation is “SEPARATE” and “DISTINCT” from ‘Growing in Christ/’maturing Sanctification’. (The older classic Dispensationalists used to teach that “sanctification” had three ‘phases’. There was ‘initial sanctification’ which was the ‘setting apart’ that occurred at the time of ‘faith in Christ’.
Secondly, there is ‘ongoing sanctification’ which is the long term spiritual growth to maturity that ‘SHOULD’ take place as a NORMAL PROCESS in every believer’s life.
Finally, there is ‘final sanctification’ that occurs at a Believer’s physical death and subsequent reception of his/her resurrected body. Paul Enns called these ‘phases’ Positional Sanctification, Experiential Sanctification, and Ultimate Sanctification in his Moody Handbook of Theology, pp. 329-330). Often used terminology is that of “Justification” versus “Sanctification”. It's best NOT to use these terms for the simple reason that these terms are used biblically in both Eternal Salvation contexts and spiritual growth to spiritual maturity contexts. The term “justification/justified’ has been particularly troubling because the Apostle Paul clearly uses it in Romans to talk about Eternal Salvation and James clearly uses it to talk about being “justified by works” (spiritual growth to maturity). “Progressive/Ongoing Sanctification” is the TERM “DISCIPLESHIP/DISCIPLEMAKING”. That is a great term and the “disciplemaking’ terminology is what YESHUA Himself used in the Great Commission - Matt. 28:18-20. Thus, this is PERHAPS the BEST TERMINOLOGY. It is the “DISCIPLE” terminology that YESHUA uses in the John 15 too - “If you abide in Me… you bear much fruit; so that you will be My Disciples.” (Jn 15:7-8). Eternal Salvation and Ongoing Discipleship are separate “categories/aspects” of our Christian Life. Yet, most views them together - as one in the same thing. AND thus, they make the REQUIREMENTS of being a DISCIPLE of CHRIST (which are many and set at a very high bar) also the REQUIREMENTS FOR ETERNAL SALVATION (which is a FREE GIFT received by ‘faith alone in Christ alone) Many proponents view the conditions for discipleship as a condition for salvation.

Ananaa I truly don't know. I think perhaps when the time comes you will feel it, you will feel prepared to truly give your all. But you definitely need to be active in following the right path. I take my father as an exemple; He was always a man of an amazing, truly amazing heart. But in his last 15 years he truly found god in his heart, in his soul. He devoted his entire being to Jesus and lived by Jesus teachings, devoted his life to help others... for him it was a journey, getting closer to god day by day. That's why I wrote before "to hope to one day "make this life I was giving worthy"
But as I said, to get there you do need to put effort and keep moving forward.

We have seen for many many years that we can not live without something else that guide us, that's why now we are lost. He is saing that we can live fine (as humanity) just being good people but it is what we really want to be every day, aren't we? Until now anything have hapend yet. We really need to be with God, we need to look for Jesus (not a relligion) to be diferent inside, this is the only way.

I'm confused. To those of you who are not listening to his message because he is Catholic ... we have had the privilege of listening to many great minds and leaders over the centuries. Do we discount Martin Luther King's words because he was a Black American during a time when conflict abounded during the civil rights era? Do we discount Albert Einstein's achievements because he was German during the rise of fascism? You may not agree with Christianity and can debate the issues, but this man has an enormous platform with which he can try to influence. His words are not exclusively Christian. He preaches inclusion. He asks that we take a moment to look at our fellow man and see them for what they are...not a Christian or Jew, not a man or woman, not rich or poor, but as our fellow human being. His message of "why him and not me" should be used as the moral compass for all.

This is the spiritual leader, the infallible incarnation of God's will on Earth as derived from Peter through the Christ, of the single largest faith on this planet. He is using theological roots to interpret and promote his consideration of Christian values. You must never ignore the subtext of a message merely because you dislike the implications, this is dishonest.

I don't care if you're a religious, agnostic, or atheist person, but if you'd rather be petty to make snide remarks instead of getting the essence of his talk and couldn't build a rather constructive input into the discussion, chances are, you yourself has done nothing to bring improvement to the community as a human being. I was so scared of always thinking about the worst case scenario that eventually I decided to just block the notion of "the future" from coming to fruition within my mind. I now know to not look at my future as an evil but that I myself, if I encounter hardships can simply choose to be complacent with my sorrow or to move on and make a better difference. :)

Openess to truth? We have only one truth thats the Word of God. There is no other truths & if you think there is then you are following blindly a man that only cares to gain full power. The word dont chnage for anyone and no one has the authority to add or change the bible like the Vatican says they can. Not biblical. The way to heaven is wide but the gate to entrance is narrow do you know why? Because in these days people want to hear what tickles there ears not what the word of God says. Jesus is the only way to the Father.
