That was her passion even more than singing. Sadly we lost her so young. Thankfully we have her legacy left in her music. The Carpenters had so many great songs such as "For All We Know", "Rainy Days & Mondays", "Superstar", "Goodbye To Love", "Top Of The World", "Sing", "Yesterday Once More", "I Won't Last A Day Without You", "Please Mr. Postman", "Only Yesterday", "There's A Kind Of Hush (All Over the World)", "I Need To Be In Love" & so many more.

Dionne Warwick's version of Close To You was recorded in 1964. The song reached #6 in the Billboard charts in1965 (B side of the single). Released in 1970, the Carpenters version became an international hit and an instant classic. Giving the duo their first #1 song. Close To You won the Grammy Award for "Song of the Year', beating out The Beatles (Let It Be) and Simon and Garfunkel (Bridge Over Troubled Water). Quite an accomplishment for the young siblings. Who at that point in time, were frustrated and teetering on obscurity. The hit songs came hard and fast over the next several years. Making the Carpenters one of the most respected and loved artists of all time. Great reaction Asia and BJ. Cheers, RNB

From that summer, of 1970-----------I had just finally, come out from the heartbreak of my 1st real love, when this song hit. I went immediately to the record store in downtown Denver, " Harmony Records ", & for 79cents, I bought the 45, & as always, came back to my tiny home, & played it --------oh, 20 times or so. THAT, was always the very best part ! --------I was 23 y/o, having finally graduated from college after 6 long years, of doing it all myself, & life was beginning to look better. ------------MJL< 75 y/o

The greatest female voice ever ! I highly recommend their live version of " I know I need to be in love" , great video of them performing live.

They were musical geniuses and pop music was never better. RIP Karen Carpenter 😢

She sang even better live. For reals. It was tested on a computer!

This is the first 45 I ever had. Me and my best friend Gail would listen to this over and over on our clunky record player. Even in our youth and with the crappy sound we knew that Karen was shining star. Great memories, thank you!

Echoing on of your other supporters Karen was a great jazz drummer and sang at the same time. The record company made her move to the front and brought another drummer ✌️

The Carpenters were the Led Zeppelin of easy listening in their day.

The Carpenters took this tune from an insurance commercial and made it into a hit song. They were a wholesome duo in stark contast to the rock image of other bands.

This was one of her biggest hits that went on forever. I think her brother wrote most of their songs.
