Keep freeze dried food if you can afford it keep canned proteins such as tunas meats ect, canned fruits, vitamins minerals. Iodized salt sugar yeast. And most importantly keep a 12 gauge pump with some buckshot for those who want what you have

Look into Hydroponics. Lettuce grows in 3 weeks.
Grow beets too. They are a good root crop and you can can and preserve them as well. They are easy to grow. Green leafy veggies grow quickly. But root crops like sweet potatoes, and potatoes, as well as onions take time. Squash grows faster and also stores well. You can also can and preserve squashes and potatoes.
Invest in vertical farming. Tomatoes take 3 months and lettuce is a month

And most of the food you wouldn't really want to eat that much of anyways especially corn. In fact it's not even really good for the animals to eat too much of it either. In the west part of it is waste, we have to deal with our waste issue. Lots of food gets thrown out everyday that could be that could feed people. There's also a misconception about expiration dates. So a lot of people throw out good food because it expires. You will be surprised how long food can last. Our waste practices have to change. We're also extremely selective about say like our meat cuts we usually only want to eat muscle meat. And in Western cultures we avoid eating insects.

@@SMABEM I'm not saying you can't eat corn I'm just saying you can't eat a lot of it. Unless it's processed into tortillas. And corn has limited amounts of nutrition in comparison to meat, milk, eggs. We literally are what we eat. So it shouldn't be about we should stop feeding the animals because we can have corn. Then we would have to rely on more corn to feed ourselves which depletes the soil. There are other food sources however that many animals can eat like insects and chickens will eat insects. I just don't think necessarily stopping the feed of animals will necessarily stop the problems of food supply, fertilizer is the main issue we have right now. I would say eating more legumes would help.
Personally I have eaten eggs that have set the refrigerator for months passits expiration date. It's perfectly fine. You can also salt them and pickle them.
I also think we need to have alternate crops.
So I can ask you the question how is eating more of a crop that depletes the soil going to help?
