  • This is the Al Roker Today Show segment from August 2011 taped to coincide with the Monkees added third swing to the East Coast. Those dates and all additional August and September 2011 tour dates were cancelled but this segment ran anyway. The second segment with I'm A Believer is posted also.

That was the MOST entertaining thing I have ever seen from Al Roker.

Does anyone know what happened that they didn't finish the tour? It's such a shame for things to have ended this way months before Day's death.

Great question. Very technically, the band was contractually obligated only through the July 23d finale at Marcus Ampitheatre in Milwaukee - which they completed in great form. The added dates would have made for a punishing trip as it called for dates in Bushkill, PA to the St. Louis area and to Canada in successive bookings. My assumption is that there was a kind of "sure let's add dates that make sense" and then a "not going to do it" when the locales were laid out in a less than ideal way. Further, Davy got to do solo dates up to his unfortunate passing on his terms / schedule and he seemed really happy at this dates, if that's any solace.

Thanks @Dallasstuff1! I was a fan as a child and only returned to the fold shortly before Mike's passing. So as I unfortunately did with Glenn Frey and the Eagles, I've begun watching all of the videos.
