Just imagine the great music, the egara, the aspect of cultural heritage and the inexplicable joy this gives to the people. How I wish the modern generation (mostly) Christians can detach fetishism and violence from this heritage. Masquerading as carnival can even be a tourist value in future.

Watching from U.K. and I assure you this is much deeper than simple traditional annual entertainment. It the ancestral religion of ubolo people of which all these boys should be proud to profess but then they are all baptized Catholics. Their priest is easily identifiable as he prays at the beginning of the video. I love the minstrel or owa egara as he sings wisdom. Africa is still a male world but one can see a gender confused young man dancing his head off in a girl’s outfit. However this ancestral festival should catch the interest of the anthropologists in the nearby university if they are serious with research. This could have been better organized for better economic gains of Udenu people in terms of tourism

His study was in the preservation of our ancestral worship through Performing Arts; which included, Akatakpa, Omabe , and the role of Omabe as the Society legal enforcement unit of the Nsukka.
