Why is it sped up? Kiribati dance is about precision in grace, this just loses both.

Kiribati traditional dancing have five categories:- (1) - Te Kai ni buki or Te buki, (2) - Te Kai ni kabuti or Te Kai marau, (3) Te Kai ni bino or Te Kai n ruoia, (4) Te Kai ni kamei or Te Kai n tabena, (5) Te Kai n taubati or Te Kai n tirere. What you mean is a category (4) dance,. What is on show is a category (2) thank you.

@@jasonbrownjournoDon't feel bad, I'm from Kiribati myself and growing up I don't remember seeing our dance this fast. I think it's the song itself being played as music (electronically) rather than people actually singing in the background behind the dancers.
There was one time I saw Kiribati dance this fast for the first time. It was a video of the 2000 Millennium celebration when Kiribati was the first Country to see the Sunrise. And they showed on TV every Country with their performance for the Millennium Celebration.
The leaders of the Kiribati dance group mentioned that one of the problems they were facing with their preparation was that they were told they had very little time to fit everything (their dance performance) in the program so that's how they did it, I guess that was beginning of the fast dance era! 😅.
Although, I'm pretty sure you can still find "Precision and Grace" on the OUTER ISLANDS where they're more Original / Cultured 🙂.

@@Repentance79 same in the Cook Islands. Main island is all Las Vegas, outer islands still got old school styles. Thanks for your understanding!
