Gotta say that score hooked me when I finally saw it on television. A classmate of mine saw it in theaters in '76 and it was ALL he talked about for months and I hung on to every word.

Thank You both for this retrospective. It's great to hear from people who were there when it was brand new.
I suppose I'm a second or third generation '76 Kong fan (33, saw this on an Encore channel in the late 90s), & it seems as time goes on its harder to find people who sing this film's praises.
It's also interesting to hear the divergences in taste for Kong media, as one reason I love this film so much is because, aside from it being my first solo Kong film, is because of its suitmation, which to me felt like a natural transition from my first exposure to anything Kong, which was King Kong vs. Godzilla. As such, I definitely (but respectively) disagree when it comes to Toho's & Legendary's output.

Nice review series of one of my all time favorites. Like you guys I was a kid in the theater seeing this in 76 and stuck with me all these years. My favorite is the close up of Kongs eyes as he moves through the forest towards the altar with Dwan for the big reveal. Very big moment.
