I own my '99 Peugeot 406 HDI break now for more than 11 years and it has driven 595000 km without serious problems. This is far out the best car I have ever had.
To my opinion this model is not noisy at all!
It's quite noisy in a Break variant with transformed saloon
hands down one of the best cars I've ever driven.
Microage I still have a 306 estate 2.0 HDi and I love it, more over it has a really high sentimental value for me.
When I was a taxi driver, I had a 2001 Peugeot 406 Estate 2.0 HDi and it did 380,000 miles just before I got rid of it. I only got rid of it because it reached 8 years and the council state taxis can only be used up until they are 8 years old. If it wasn't for that, I would have kept it as it never let me down. Someone I knew had a 406 that did 700,000 miles.
1100HondaCB Didn't they let you buy it out? That's a shame.
Mine is only over 400,000
I know someone with the HDI 110cv version, who made 650.000km (not miles, but still a lot!).
There are 7 with 1 million+ kilometres for sale where I live, and where I live, the country doesn't have over 100k km squares. Insane how reliable that car is.
My dads 2000 406 estate hdi only has 180k
One of the greatest cars ever made
Fun, cheap, reliable, FRENCH!?
2001 406 hdi exec estate now 300,000 miles and nothing very much ever gone wrong,a lovely car to drive, best car I have ever had
I agree. What a car!
I used to have a 406 2.0 turbo, it had 150 hp, very very quick for 1996
406 is super car!!! no problemes 0 ......260 000 km!!!
mine have 485.000 is amazing nothing made into engine
Best motorway cruiser in a generation
406 fan here. I have a diesel saloon from 03. It’s a joy to drive, very comfortable, looks beautiful in darkish blue, sounds great for a diesel car and is all in all a very practical and stylish car. Easy to love. It only needed and serious work done to it a year ago and that was only a little bit of welding.
It is extremely good looking though.
Best car ive ever owned got 350000 miles on the clock and still going strong no problems with it at all like to see a new car nowdays do that with out serious faults the 406 was definitely a car built to last
I recently got a 2001 406 with a 2 liter petrol engine (EW10 J4), post face-life, great car and still going strong.
Love the engine, very responsive.
Only downside is the 4 speed automatic - get the manual if you can, I couldn't find one..
Owned three, two of 'em XUD turbos.... Superb cars.
I agree with David, I have one 13 years old, it driver like a dream, still doing 50MPH even after it has done 150k. This Brian guy sounds like a complete To*ser. Driving a shopping trolley? Obviously he hasn't a clue about cars and how they drive. Unfortunately the Peugeot 406 isn't quite noisy enough to drown out his drowning voice.
mine has tan leather and woodgrain and alloys in dark red goes really well as a cheap daily
I had Peugeot 406 2.1 TDs mk1 & 2.0HDIs mk2 in Diablo Red. Like my 2 405s they were Great Driver's car's.
i have a 52 plate 406 90 hdi...she is a dream to drive...still
Would have thought Richard Hillman would have test driven it in a canal ha ha
"I LOVE YOOOOUU!!" *splash*
Daniel Morales’s 406 from Taxi 1998
How silly for this dude to say "its a dool ca",can someone tell him it is a very elegant Pininfarina design.Compare it to its rivals and they do look rather ugly while the 406 looks nice and pleasant even in 2020.It also has the most beautiful combination of ride, steering, handling and brakes.
yeah, it's amazing how mediocre his way of thinking is....the car is not expensive, the car is not rare = it looks dull....
Very nice auto :)
I disagree with that reviewer. All I can say is he must have been blind. The 406 is not dull, never was. Understated? Yes. Elegant? Definitely. To my eye it still looks great after nearly 30 years, especially in post facelift D9 guise.
My mate had one parked it in pub car park and a lorry delivering barrels hit it and crushed it hahahha
Peugeot’s do feel french when you drive them I’ve drove a few
Peugeot 406 V6 restoration: czcams.com/video/2Mb4zdQdDO4/video.html
what is Richard Hammond doing in here ?
He probably had to start somewhere.
pretentious gibbering twits will take any opportunity
The reviewer is a plonker. If somebody is looking at buying a 5-seater saloon they are probably looking at that category for key reasons -- why would they take his advice and "spend more" on a coupé?? That's like thinking "Well I need an estate as I have 3 children and need the space, but I'll just go for a Mazda MX3".
Restyling riuscito.
The worse pug 406 review ever
Thanks for watching!

This was the only car I've owned which I genuinely hated. It was so dull, every aspect of it.
The only good thing about it was the rain sensing wipers, which worked fantastically.
Everything else was so dull.
dull my ass
pull my asd
Really? I love this car, the engine is great (1.8 benzin) and it's really comfy. Only thing that could be better is the suspension (maybe the age).
