I think it probably has to do with the perception of being a "toy commercial" as a negative when if you understand the first thing about kids, THEY DON'T BUY LAME CHARACTERS MERCH you get made fun of for that
Calling something a "toy commercial" means the creators at least CARED about what would get a kid invested so they'd WANT merch which was inspiring their imagination in a lot of cases
