- Ruger SR1911 Review & Opinion. The Sarge finds a gem in the safe. The commander sized Ruger SR1911. It not only looks good, it shoots good. The Sarge has heard a lot of good things about the SR 1911 and today he finds it to be true. This girl is flashy and fine. HOOAH

My SR1911 was purchased from a local gun store. It was the only one in stock, so I took it without thoroughly checking it out. When I got it out on the range, I discovered it was a veritable rattle trap. Loose tolerances galore, horrible trigger. It was so bad I couldn’t believe it left Ruger factory in that condition. Contacted Ruger customer service and they arranged to have pistol returned and inspected. They shipped me a brand new gun within a matter of a few days. The replacement has been flawless. Incredible handgun for the price. Wonderful trigger and very accurate.
Good to hear the series was great
A few years ago now I strolled into my pawn shop and they had a used Ruger CMD .45 that by all appearances, was barely used. Then I saw they had it priced at right over $500 and I almost fainted. I was ready, ready, ready to buy right then and there, no time to waste. Then? Then I handled it....good God what a terrible example. Seriously. I was shocked. Now, this wasn't the first Ruger 1911 I'd handled. Most were "fine" or "passing" at least but this one was terrible. So, it does happen from time to time. I couldn't believe my luck walking in and spotting it for that price and then my luck that it was more loose fit than size 52"x32" pants on a 34"x29" man.
I've since gotten one of these newish alloy frame full size 5" 1911's from Ruger a few weeks ago. Honest to goodness I asked to handle it from the guy behind the counter fully expecting to hand it back doing my usual "meh" over the fitment but this one? Above average. I took this one..
Glad you had a better experience with Ruger customer service. Before firing mine, I noticed severe damage where the slide was rubbing on the lower. Sent it in, week and a half later got it back with the same issue. Sent it back and pushed for a replacement. 6weeks after purchase, I still don’t have it back. Strongly considering replacing it with a Springfield Prodigy.
@@kevinmanning8214 Bought the Ruger several years ago…obviously customer service has gone down the tubes, judging by your experience. Sorry to hear that. Great reviews on the Prodigy. Bul Armory makes good stuff as well. I hope Ruger finally makes it right by you.
I have one and it’s a beautiful gun and accurate. You can get 10 round mags too for target practice
I’ve had my Ruger full size since 2013, it has served me well. With a few upgrades, Dawson FO front sight,EGW magwell and VZ Operator grips, this pistol has run thousands of rounds shooting IDPA. I also have a CMD model which rides on my right hip. My third is the 10mm. Ruger makes quality and affordable 1911’s.
They make good stuff for sure. Thanks for watching

Just purchased one three days ago for my own Christmas present. While at the gun store I took the time to take a real careful look at the Ruger and liked what I saw! Thanks SGT, I was just at my local gun shop looking at a used but almost new Ruger SR1911 yesterday and had nearly talked myself out of buying it. Now I am calling them tomorrow, Cheers

Nice review! These Rugers really are fine 1911s that seem to get lost in the shuffle of all the other 1911s out there. But, the real shooters know the deal & appreciate them. 👍👍
Right on Bro
I purchased a Ruger SR1911 back in December 2021. I must say my opinion this 1911 pistol has a super smooth trigger pull!!! Only negative I see with the 1911 5” barrel is it’s almost impossible to carry due to its bulky & heavy size!!!
@@thomaspalmer7900 lol. Except maybe in the winter or open carry

Get one. Becareful you will get hooked. Thanks for watching
I've had this commander model since 2013 and probably carry it the most in winter months with 2 mags for 21-24 rounds. I do have one problem with mine and that is the extended safety is pretty soft and will disengage in a leather holster with thumb strap which puts pressure on the safety lever and pushed it downward. I have seen other videos that talk about this problem but it is still a fabulous 1911 and mine has never had a feeding issue. I look forward to your gun channel. Thanks.
That is the reason I do notice amni safety. I have a video om it as well. Thanks for watching

Wolf springs sells a reduced power mag release spring kit. It comes with 4 or 5 springs starting at mil spec and dropping by one pound for each successive spring. The one pound reduction spring was good for me. The next spring down, a two pound reduction was perfect for my wife's gun.

Love my full size, had it for eight years. No failures. I like the fact that Ruger made it with an oversized extraction port.
Ruger is under appreciated. I think they did it to themselves with the ruger American rilfe. It is so inexpensive people think all ruger is cheap
@SGT1911 I love Ruger's products and their customer service is top notch. I've heard of people purchasing a used first year GP100 from 1985 from a pawn shop and something was wrong with it so they sent it in and Ruger fixed the problem for free. Also, a guy proved a point here on the YT and brought a stock out-of-the-box $300 American Rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor to a range and was hitting 1000 yard steel just to prove a point that you don't need $3000 rifle to do it. Now that Ruger purchased Marlin, I think that's even better! I love Marlin lever actions.

Hey Sarge great video I’m between the SR1911 and Springfields Garrisons since you shot and reviewed both I was wondering which you would pick and why?
Hard choice. I would say you. Ant go wrong with either. Pick each up and test the trigger on each one you hold. The Garrison is nice.
Just bought one off a friend going thru medical issues. Never been fired yet. Definitely excited now to shoot it.

I remember when this first dropped from Ruger 11 years ago for the 100 year anniversary of the 1911. Great budget 1911 overall, but I prefer Springfield or Kimber in the same price range. TRP Stainless from Springfield is my dream 1911. Keep it up Sarge!!

I bought my Ruger SR 1911 4.5 years ago on academy website cost me like $1380 and change for it. I love it it's my edc
It is a nice handgun. don't let go of it. Thanks for watching
I purchased my SR1911 full size and I absolutely love it. I've taken some crap from the Gun Snobs because I didn't pay $3000 dollars for it but it shoots flawlessly and the Ammo is the same as the $3000 dollar handguns
Can you hit with it? Is it safe? They can FO.
I’ve got one. One of my favorite guns
I own both a Nighthawk GRP and inherited a SR1911 from my grandfather.
The Ruger has been running fine. Differences in fit and finish are very apparent, the Ruger is sloppier in almost every way and rattles on the grip safety and trigger but that’s secondary stuff. The Ruger seems to work well and is (in my experience) reliable.
Ruger 1911 is fair priced also. Enjoyed the video.
Thanks for watching
It's a great pistol for sure. I have one but don't carry it often because it's pretty heavy. I prefer 185 JHP's at high velocity for a defensive load personally. You missed a couple of interesting things about these pistols. The slide and barrel and bushing all come from the same block of steel. The firing pin is titanium to decrease lock time. I'd love to have the full size version but I refuse to pay the prices stores are asking for them now. No way this is an $800 plus gun. I paid $629 for mine in 2018 before all of the pandemic nonsense.
Thanks for the input. I doubt many know about lock time, but they should learn. Thanks for watching
Oftentimes I see people complaining about this gun or that gun being "too heavy". The truth is, you can conceal carry anything short of a chain saw with the right clothing, holster and belt combination. 😅
Just traded a 1911U for the SR 1911 4.25 SS 45. Took a little beating on the trade but well worth the loss. Cleaned it up, out to the range shot $24 (50rds) no malfunction and very accurate. Ruger throw it in the mud, pick it up, fire it up. Btw I only shoot ball. Got hooked on ball. Every caliber was a ball. 5.56 ball, 7.62 ball, 45 acp ball. It was a ball. Kinda weird this ball thing.
They all fall to the ball. That Ruger is a shooter. Thanks for watching and shoot safe
Can you do a comparison video between the Ruger SR 1911, & the Sig Sauer C3 1911 please? I'm trying to decide!

Sarge,
It’s been a year or so since you did this video. How does the Ruger commander stack up after all this time?
runs great to this day
Hello Sargent. Those double-taps look pretty impressive. Any training tips to help develop that skill or is it just repetition? Also, do think lighter pistols (Glocks, XDs. M&Ps etc.) are as good as the 1911 for double taps in terms of speed and accuracy, all things being equal? It seems to me the trigger and the extra weight help with recoil management in 45 ACP. Thank you.
Hey Bro. PRACTICE is key. I do like many if the polymer pistols. The XD's, M&P, WALTHER. ALL of them will work fine with practice. The weight as you say will help you stay closer to target. I don't think any polymer is as good as a 1911, but they are some good ones out there. Whatever you do PRACTICE as much as you can and be sage. Thanks for watching
