    THE RED PILL OF GOLF. Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy, Joaquín Niemann and Cameron Champ all swing this way. How you swing the club is a matter of how you think about it. Many people say this has completely changed transformed their golf swings. This is the secret to golf.
    You cannot swing the club effectively if you believe you are ABOVE it. You must swing it as if it is ABOVE YOU or that you are under it.
    Start playing golf well. Gain confidence and have more fun playing golf.
    Golf should not be a struggle. Golf should not be hard. Golf is easy if you know the secret.
    The more I think about this, the more I think this is the key to Mike Austin's swing. Mike Austin never mentions this secret to golf. Now that I've made this video and revisited some Austin's videos, I can see this is what he's doing.
    Baader-Meinhof is weird like that. There's a lot of it in golf.
    After reading this you may experience Baader-Meinhof about Baader-Meinhof, itself.

    This is gold. Been playing for forty years and got as low as 3 handicap. Had illness and now 14. Never ever really understood the swing until watching your excellent videos. Went to the range 3 times (300 balls) since watching the first video. Got my love back for the game. Was striping it with my irons but having trouble repeating it with my woods. A big help was your thought “think of the right hand staying above the left”. Never before have I had the freedom to swing the club so effortlessly. A long way to go but already but really enjoying these range practice sessions. Would appreciate a video on the woods and driver but I guess it’s just me as I’m sure your instruction works the same for all clubs. Can’t thank you enough for these videos. @@thephotographer539 I hope he will do more videos on this subject because it is truly "night and day" differences in how the swing is supposed to be as compared to how most of us amateur players swing the club. I've watched this video at least 20 times to completely understand it but 10 years ago I wouldn't have understood it either. Literally 80% of the swing is below the club. What your wrists/club feel like initially is that they are swinging in reverse, but the truth is that initial "reverse" feeling is what initiates a ton of club head speed. It also produces a shallow swing which will give you maximum ball compression. I think all pro golfers do it to some extent, but the way he explains it makes the most sense to me. Moe Norman talks about the vertical drop which is basically the same thing. The whole idea is to feel you are under the club as opposed to being over the club (like most high handicap players). I hope that the light bulb will go off for you on this concept because it will tremendously affect your golf swing.

    So I've watched the video like 12 times now. I have to say, I am more and more impressed with the information contained therein. In particular, the portion that begins right around the 5:30 mark. I've been letting that idea sink into my head. It seems like there is no chance you will hit the ball correctly but I'll be buggered if it didn't hit the ball farther with a lower trajectory (All of my shots are moon shots normally). But more importantly, it felt like the ball was struck "behind me". It felt so different than other swings. Totally night and day, I just hope I'm on the right path.

    I guarantee you when they first try it, most people will shank it or push it a mile to the right. Hopefully they video their swing as feedback and realize how much better their path and body movements look. This movement is absolutely correct! They then need to adjust their grip/squaring mechanism of the face...not go back to 'over the top' to prevent the ball from going to the right. Lots of great insight in this video!

      Hey duke cienda. Please check my comment above as I am always struggling with what you describe here, and have tried to explain my perception of it in my comment. It seems to me that almost all instruction doesn't talk about this. They might say 'turn the screwdriver' or 'bow the wrists' or 'flex the back of the trail hand' as the 'squaring mechanism' you mention but I struggle to achieve that when moving body and club correctly and using these quick fixes. I feel I would really like to understand the overall concept better. I have a neutral to strong grip and have been told it is good by teaching pros but I often have the problem you mention and shank/heel it nonetheless.

    It’s overcoming this optical illusion that’s the challenge. Just recently some teachers in Europe advocate training with the “no look shot” you address ball as normal then look not at the ball but look out horizontally. By doing this the optical illusion is gone. Some people hit proper shots for the first time in their lives.😀🏌️‍♂️

This is an idea that a lot of golfers just cannot fathom, but the fact is that the tool is designed in a certain way that 'it will swing you' to some extent if you do this move right. Cooper Osborne talks about it with the Fibonacci Spiral...that move in the correct direction allows the tool to do what it is supposed to do, so it squares up and releases naturally...otherwise you would break your wrist. His swing is easygoing and he states that he is 6' 3" & 235 . So with that size and a smooth swing , I think 300 yards is almost a given . It's nice of him to take the time to show all of us how it should be done .

I now weigh only 185 lbs and I don't hit the ball nearly as far as I used to after contracting an infection from my cheating wife that severely effected my kidneys. I finally got the infection diagnosed and treated but I'm not sure I'll ever regain full mobility. It's been months now since I received treatment and I'm starting to get my mobility back, which is one reason I haven't posted any videos lately. I'm hoping to get back to full strength again someday and making and posting new videos.

    My passions in life are baseball and golf. And this was the video that for me finally eliminated the mystery of hitting both a baseball and a golf ball. I thought I knew it all, but things would still go wrong. I now realize that both swings depend upon rotating the right forearm in a clockwise direction (from my perspective) at the beginning of the forward baseball swing and during the beginning of the downswing in golf (as long as the lower body starts each swing). This move flattens my downswing, enables me to hit the ball more from the inside, creates more lag, and also eliminates the slight chicken wing in my follow through that I was always fighting. This is DEFINITELY one of golf's secret moves. I always knew about the importance of hitting from the inside, but your video really lit the light bulb over my head. And you probably have no idea how well this move works when hitting a baseball. The golf swing (and the baseball swing) are overhand motions, I now see it more clearly than ever. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

    Thanks for passing on the insights that will help all of us, not just me. It is amazing what you have uncovered and explained has not been passed on by golf instructors as a basic understanding of the golf swing during the early stages of learning the game. Your video on the importance of perception reminds me of this famous saying.
    “It’s not what you look at that
    matters. It’s what you see.”

      @HolyGrailOfGolf  Před 2 lety

      Hmmm, I think in golf "It's not what you see that matters. It's what you believe you see."

    • @tedcummings2186
      @tedcummings2186 Před 2 lety

      I think it's a sequence issue in golf. You first have to see [meaning have a clear perception of the key moves (the fewer the better) in a sound golf swing]. Then you try it out and do it enough times and discover it works. It is actually making you a better golfer. With that success comes belief (and in golf that translates to confidence when you own your swing).
      More specifically, let's take your idea about the axis of rotation on the downswing. The way you see it is quite a bit different than conventional golf instruction (which promotes a more centered axis around the spine). The belief issue is that your perception will greatly enhance the shoulder plane on the downswing with the trail shoulder going down on a steeper plane than the hip plane. You've tried it out many times and proven to yourself it works. After that trial-and-error phase, you believe in its efficacy. If it were just a matter of belief in what you see, anyone who just held strong beliefs in their own perceptions would become low handicappers. This view omits the most important issue and that is the validity of what you are trying to do with your golf swing. For many golfers, what they are trying could be way off base and lead them down multiple rabbit holes.
      So, I go back to your idea. I think it is a good thought. I agree one has to believe in what they are doing in anything in life and especially in golf. So, I would reword your thought slightly differently. "It's not what you see that matters. It's working on the right things that will make a difference and build your belief in your own golf improvement journey." [I'm sure there is a more concise way of saying all that but that is the gist of it.]
      Thirty years ago, when I was in my early fifties and playing to a 9.4 handicap, my golf buddy was fond of telling me all golf instruction boils down to "Do this and Don't do that." What that style of instruction shortchanged was: "How do I do that?"; "How will I know when I have done it? [Particularly relevant to a pure release.]"; and "How hard do I have to practice it for it to become second nature?"
      Thanks for all your videos. Please keep at it.
      Fairways and Greens,

      @@tedcummings2186 I totally agree. Simply telling someone "do this" or "don't do that" without out them knowing how or why is pointless. I have told people to literally throw a club in the direction they're facing at address and they do that perfectly ... So, why are you cocking your head and doing all that other stuff when you hit a golf ball? It's the same motion you just used to throw that club and you didn't do any of that! It's that damn ball that destroys the golf swing!

    I do gain 14mph club head speed and way better finishing ie. Chest up and tall with more side bend retained.
    Issues during practice:
    1. Leading elbow almost popped out with lots of pain. I solved this issue by using a neutral to slightly weak grip and release a foot or 2 earlier/behind the ball.
    2. Feeling i would thin or miss the ball altogether. Still do even when i actually strike ball reasonably well.
    Hope to bring this new swing to the range soon as 12 feet from the net ball flight doesn't tell much.
    Again thanks for sharing. 👍

      Yes, if you've been swinging "commonly" and over the top your entire life this will be a drastic change. It'll take time to get used to but you will and once you do you won't be able to remember how you ever swung a club any other way. Again, like I say in the video it's a subtle move and once you get it working it'll feel so natural that you won't be able to feel it. This is common. Many people will overdo it so they can feel it again and then they break it.

    GREAT presentation! Been stumbling toward this information for quite a while, this clip adds greatly on my road to discovery. Your description of "under the club" helps, thanks. The first thing I thought of early in your presentation was an episode of Swing Expedition, where Como and Dechambeau describe something they call the "end limits of motion" or "anatomical governors". They only talk about the left arm (lead arm), you refer to the right arm (trail arm). They talk about holding the elbow of the left arm in a position that at impact is pointing toward the target and preventing shots from going left, but I believe it is a complimentary position to the right arm position you describe, in fact I have been combining those position and have named them the M.A.P. position (Magic Arm Positions). The MAP position also includes a flat or bowed left wrist and a over extended right wrist. In my experimenting I've found for me that maintaining this position to a point that "feels" like you're pass impact results in an experience like you describe at impact, the club snaps through effortlessly with tremendous speed! Maintaining the MAP position almost compels rotation. Your thought of staying under the club greatly helps in achieving this impact goal! Thanks. The Como/Dechambeau vid is on CZcams at czcams.com/video/1aeTZTMSZcw/video.html if you're interested.

In addition to perception of "over vs under", I believe that if you have been instructed to square the clubface early then you will perform the "over" move. That has been my problem for many years, because when I perform the correct "under" move, from the top as my right elbow drops and my right forearm twists, it feels like the right palm faces the sky and the face is wide open. Therefore I have always avoided this move and have spent years struggling to play with the wrong "over" move.

It’s weird to adjust to at first, but it really does seem like the downswing starts by swinging the club head basically backwards at the ball. And if you let it happen it does snap “into place” by impact. It’s really awesome feeling and seems sort of “automatic” if started down correctly.

    @overhand golf. Hell yeah! Great clarification of some of your early videos on this concept. I have a rhetorical question which may inspire a future video. So I swing pretty much around plane but I'm stuck between the concept you describe here and falling into bad habits again. The concept you're describing undoubtably gets my arms/clubshaft/body moving properly but I can't get the hands to work properly with it. Conversely, sometimes I get the hands working dynamically in the right position but I get a little 'on top' of it again and trail shoulder and elbow roll internal again. I am shooting between 6 -10 over most rounds so I can play ok but I feel (to use mainstream coaching jargon) that I struggle with 'wrist angles' to keep control of the clubface when swinging with this type of concept in mind. Simple way to put it is: In this video you looked like you'd shank every shot. Also many teaching pros and pro-golfers look the same when they talk about the movement of the body club i.e they have an massively open face because they are demonstrating movements of the body/shaft and not demonstrating the clubface positions. So what's the missing link that allows you to move like this and be able to square the clubface? I've never seen this addressed in any coaching videos and think you'd explain it well conceptually. Wrist angles? Pure momentum? The correct moment to move from 'under it' into the lever portion through impact? Could it be you're 'under it' with body but your hands are over it to apply pressure downwards?
    Sorry for such a long message. I hope it is clear what I'm trying to communicate and would love to hear your insight on this. I imagine there must be others thinking the same thing.

      I'll have to think about that and get back to you, but for right now, you shouldn't have to think about squaring the face manually, ever. That would require timing in every shot and that would be work. The tool is engineered to work with the limits of our body ... or we just got super luck that it does, either way it does work. Actually the golf club controls you not the other way around. I have a club that I made with a head that is not connected to the shaft and spins freely. I can hit balls straight and far with it.

    Long time baseball player. We were taught to "chop down" on the ball to hit line drives and hard ground balls. For me its definitely a push from the top, on top of the club. The feeling of rotating my right forearm the way you're talking is mentally and physically against everything in my body and brain but I know you're correct. Gotta try this a couple thousand times lol

      People pay hundreds for a new driver or irons and hundreds more on DVDs and lessons that do them little or no good. I have truly simplified the swing to the point of almost near ridiculousness and it's transforming people's golf games and only a few nice people have given me a donation.
      I don't mean to guilt you into anything. You do what feel is right. My wife keeps saying to me, "Why are you just giving it away for free? You're wasting your time!"

      I've said that just about everyone has hit a ball back into the range without thinking or hit a ball back to a friend and then realized it was the best shot they'd ever hit and they weren't even thinking about it. Our brain has an idea of what a golf swing is but in those cases the brain was not engaged and the body did what it needed to ... sans brain. The brain then said, "Hey! I wasn't engaged!" Unfortunately, there's no mechanism to disengage the brain, so we have to learn what the body needs to do and let the brain relax on standby. So, until the body and the brain are on the same page it usually doesn't work too well.

    I am finding that to hit the positions in the downswing you need to get your takeaway and backswing correct (for you) when you stretch the muscles in the backswing they contract in the downswing. I am literally thinking the sidearm throwing action on the way back and on the downswing. Or trying to hit a baseball. It seems to get me in the right position and then everything is just a reaction to the action - if you know what mean. I would appreciate you slant on the takeaway and backswing. Keep up the great work and look out for that poor orange tree. 🏌️‍♂️🏌️‍♂️

    • @HolyGrailOfGolf
      @HolyGrailOfGolf  Před 3 lety +2

      I like that, "Reaction to the action." I didn't talk about the backswing too much here because if you have the proper intention in the downswing, it should dictate how you load the club up for that motion. I try to keep things simple and let people figure some things out on their own. What I often hear is, "Just thinking this way fix my ... (whatever,)" which is completely unrelated.

    Guys... this is the single greatest right arm explanation you’re going to find. I’ve always intuitively known there was something wrong with what I was doing with it. You’ll see people explain “laying the club off” at the top. But Overhand’s explanation of the club working in the opposite direction of the path (I’ll call it radial circumduction) is THE STANDARD.
    You combine this lesson with Hogan’s 100 right arm only swings per day (provided you’re adhering to the holy grail and your swing intent is at 7:15ish) you WILL MASTER THE DRIVER. I was hitting bombs down the middle at the range 9/10 without any of my old fade dragging the ball off target line.
    When is the merchandise line launching? I want an overpriced “overhand golf” polo. Under Armour is my preferred but I’ll defer. Under Armour Overhand has a nice ironic ring to it. Just saying!
