    You're far too kind for the shout-out and for showing my channel sticker Ken 😁👍Thank you. I've always wondered about adapting a modern transmission behind an older Hemi. I've passed up on a few of those engines just because there are no good options. Glad to see you're getting closer on Phoenix 🔧🔩. Happy wrenching my friend

    All good stuff , Ken ! That 2 year old Grand baby , wanting to bake Grandpa a birthday cake , sounds like she didn't fall far from the tree . That's alright too , brother . It's a heck of a tree . That , right there , is worth all of the apples in the orchard , as they say . Truly blessed . Got your Hemi's , SBCs , & Dirty-dozens . That old dozen seems to fire off a little quicker every time , too . That kind of fun , puts a smile on any good man's face . We sure do appreciate ya , Waylon ! Great post , covered a ton of ground , & those are usually the best . Take care !

    I lived in Hood River, we had two orchards one that was flat, and the other was mostly hills. Our little Ford tractors would not pull the sprayer until we bought one with duals. Before that we used a D2 Cat. I did the same thing you did, only with a bin of pears on each end. Came down the hill standing up with my foot crosswise on both brakes pulling up on the steering wheel. Finally set down the front bin in order to stop.

    I had an extended bell housing on that 331 Caddy and man was that thing a pain in the neck.... I got it working with a T-5 but had to use a hydraulic clutch that slid over the trans shaft and when it went bad I had to pull the engine to get to it and it and all the custom parts I had to get made to make it work, just edged me over to the edge where I met that nice little simple 283 Chebby friend and the rest is hissory...

    Hot Hemi Heads makes adaptors to install late trans. on the old hemis. The adaptor mounts without machining the block. The bell is cut off of the trans and a machined adaptor bolts it together.

    That old sprayer reminded me of the kind we used here in south west Idaho to spray hops with back in the 1960s . Ours were about the same size and yellow color . They held 500 gal. of spray , 60 gal. gas fuel tank , big pump, huge fan on the back with spray out both sides and up 20 . The engine was a 292 or maybe 312 Ford Y-block since it did have a big Holley 4 BL. carb. on it . Probably industrial engine since Ford did built them . 12 to 14 hour a day spraying would use all most all of the 60 gal fuel . Out tractors were small Ferguson 35 3 cylinder diesel engines with 10 gal. fuel tanks we filled ever other day . There were small but towed the sprayer easy . The problem was traveling from one field to another and have to go down a steep hill every time , that is where we had to be use brakes and shift the tractor out of overdrive that came on them or it would free wheel like it was out of gear .

    • @1963impala2drWaylonWire
      @1963impala2drWaylonWire  Před 6 měsíci

    WOW! A 331 was huge in those days. The transmission shifted like an overdrive unit. Just take off, and when you're ready, back off the gas so it can upshift. I had a '53, and could race city busses off the line in high range. Low range was for VW bugs.

    Back in the 60s and 70s, the 727 Torqueflite trans was used to hook up what they called a clutch flite. Machine the bell housing off the auto 727 and bolt it to a 4 speed bell housing. A planetary set to use with a clutch . Clutch used to launch then fluid shifts once underway. Would love to see the torque flite hooked to the old Hemi!! Is that a 331 or 336?

    Possible sticking valve on the silver HEMI causing the push-rod to fall out of place. On the industrial HEMI it most likely has sodium filled valve stems to help displace heat, if they will clean up in a valve job great, if not EXPENSIVE!! to replace .

    Just my 2 cents, but be careful with Speed Gem adapters. I spent a $1000 and was pretty disappointed. The starter supplied did not fit correctly and I had to machine it.
    The shims for the starter were missing. The flywheel had not been machined to fit my crank and I had to put that on the mill as well.. They were not much help on the phone either.
    There are other adapter companies out there, like Wilcap, ect.. Do some digging before you buy. Hemi Power!!!
