I love ribbon mics. I primarily use the Shure KSM313 and the Beyerdynamic M 160. I'm a big fan of the Audio AT 4080 and anything from AEA (RCA) as well.
Ah, I didn't know that ribbons have a drop off. That's probably why when used to mic an amp people like to use an SM57 too (which has a boost.)Great video.
Well spotted Don! The mic was used to record the audio in one take with the master shot, then later we filmed cutaway video-only simulations of the position of the cab for the various distances. Somehow the mic got unplugged!
Excellent vid! I like my ribbon Beyer M160 a lot but it should be mentioned that ribbons are only desirable if someone has enough other good mics. As a one and only mic it would be a bad choice imho.
Just a correction to this. Phanton is not really an issue with ribbon mics if you know what rare situations might cause it to act in an harmful way. People pass it on without trying or knowing. There is possibility to blow anything electronic if you don't know what you are doing. A good start is a tutoring video like this. Good demo of how ribbons act.
My god, tune that guitar!

+Fezzler61 That's right, and like the SM57 most ribbons can handle loud signals too. Thanks for your comment.
great
Hey that ribbon is pluged into yellow mic cable .. right .. but the yellow cable is not plugged into nothing at all!
