The fact that Journalist Amy Goodman and the news network Al-Jazeera is able to criticize itself is probably the most benevolent move I've ever seen in my life.
The music, the animation... it's all so perfectly fitting. It's exactly the kind of imagery that goes through my head when thinking about propaganda machines and corporate profit interests over the American people. It's very Orwellian.
And the control the media exerted and still exerts in favor of the left is incredible, Trump can't say a word without getting the flack you saw them talking about, its the whole media machine against this guy, except what, Fox, and alternative internet based media.
+Andrew Price3 _"No actually Trump creating is the flak. So you missed that point BIG time."_ One of the points of the video is that those who dissent from the media's narrative get attacked by the media and that is exactly what is happening to Trump. Just because Trump is a petty liar doesn't change that fact. For instance the media won't STFU about Russia even though it's a non-issue (like Benghazi). So someone missed the point but it's not Dan 123.
Well that's not flak. That's just the media acting through its other filters. Just as the Russia thing is put on by people in the political establishment, legitimate or not, from the Democrats and others who want to take Trump down, so was Benghazi a ploy put on by the Republican Party. Flak according to the model is when the media deviates from the propaganda line, and that can come from any side of the spectrum, but always from the political establishment. When the media criticizes Trump it's not flak.
This video should be compulsory viewing for all kids from early age, and repeated very frequently until they really understand how those in power try to (successfully) make most people into sheeple.

Though all this seems like a big conspiracy but it's just the product of capitalism, there's no escape. The authority will always hold the power to control and censor information and ofcourse with advertisements.
"Big conspiracy" is a concept that was used to turn out communism in a place that it never would go to put itself in. And it's just because Karl Marx was a macroeconomist which achieved with great amount of work a theory that could explain the actual system, so, conspiracy is a therm that was used as a concept to ruin a theory that pretended give the people a better life to enjoy, with work and education fair for everybody. Yes everyone seems to want the hot button touched that they watch. Somewhat like "playing the card" . Totally today. Center of attention need , or give us death.
I heard even Amy Goodman (narrator) has fallen victim to what she used to warn us against on her show Democracy Now. Sad that even the diehard anti-war activists are vulnerable to selling out.
I am from India, and hence most of what it says regarding American imperialism makes less relevance to me.. But first few chapters are generic and applies to all media (and all democracies)..
One characteristic of the truth ( about anything) is that it tends to be short and to the point, like this video. False info ( like answers given by politicians )tends to be long winded and confusing. Great video.
The ideas are from Noam Chomsky, the narrator is Amy Goodman. Both are hugely credible. The fact this is posted by Aljazeera just drives home the irony that we aren't seeing this presented by sources closer to home. The ideas speak for themselves, regardless of who the messenger is. Anyway, don't dismiss Aljazeera out of hand. I've heard they are coming under more government control in recent years, but historically they've been quite independent and even had a worldwide reputation for high-quality, independent journalism, better than what we have in the U.S. Maybe I wouldn't trust them to inform me about the nature of the Qatar government, but here we're seeing something whose truth is self-evident once you look at it.
Somewhat poor representation of Chomsky's five filters. I highly recommend the introduction of _Manufacturing Consent_ for a better summary of the filters.
His audacity should have called it The Deconstruction of Involvement through this Obligatorily Overwhelming Temporal Fabric with Each of Us already Having Failed and Succeeded Prior to Reading This Instead, he called it Manufacturing Consent
The main thing that seperates this video and Chomsky's actual introduction to Manufacturing Consent is the framing. This video kind of frames the theory in a way that makes it seem overly conspiratorial, especially with the wacky animation, (personally I enjoy the crazy art style, but I think it's out of place here) whereas the 5 filters are literally just a reflection of the reality of the way media works.

The sad part is that the people who should get the message in this video will be frightened by the freaky animation.
I agree. Those people are frightened by their own shadows. It's very fitting, though. When talking about propaganda.
not to mention Al Jazeera sounds way to Muslim
Isn't it weird. This was made in 1988, but all the little cartoon characters look like little Trumps.

Crazy to see it in action as we speak. People are supporting nuclear war with Russia- insane.
Crazy that Putin's supporters won't even see this, not to mention understand how they were brainwashed.

I love Noam Chomsky, but his voice puts people to sleep no matter how important or interesting is his thinking. What we just saw here and a condensing of Chomsky thinking with clever graphics....a great teaching technique. And believe me, US Americans need some schooling on this issue.
Nice to hear Amy Goodman's voice too. She gives credibility to anything she does. I am a great admirer.

Yeah, sure whatever...
But the important question is:
WHERE CAN I BUY THOSE LOOLOO BOOTS?!?
One criticism I have is that the overly dramatic music and the authoritative tone of this video makes it sound like it's propaganda itself.
Well it is political art. Propaganda is art meant to spread a political message. Good propaganda doesn't let you know its propaganda. That's what makes the media so effective. It is just facts and figures, either panels of people arguing. But no attention brought to who gets to ask the questions, about what facts, to what people.
@@ttlovepie101 That's a good point. Now that I think about it, a lot of propaganda is very subtle.
This is propaganda.

This is amazing. Creepy, yet brilliant animation. I also like that you guys included Chomsky's theory on the subject without actually showing him. It allows the idea to more effectively saturate the product and viewer.
Though, this is 80s Chomsky. I wonder how he would feel about the media today.
Jesse Hughes It's much worse. Because while the Internet allows a lot of great media platforms to appear, it has 10x as much bullshit. At least with traditional media there is some kind of attention paid to accuracy and facts. Not anymore. As we've seen, this can help win elections.
Jesse Hughes Im reading Manufacturing Consent right now with the updated preface from a couple years ago. He basically said "I was proved right"
yes but with lot of BS people is overflowed, and is forced to learn critical thinking and some of them do. I think nowadays there are more free thinkers than in the 80s, even though they're still the minority.
About the corporate media today? It's still propaganda, and it's been pushing the New Cold War.
He's still alive and saying stuff, you know.
Hard truth especially in light of the failure to report on Epstein even when they had the story

No actually Trump creating is the flak. So you missed that point BIG time.
+Andrew Price3 _"No actually Trump creating is the flak. So you missed that point BIG time."_
One of the points of the video is that those who dissent from the media's narrative get attacked by the media and that is exactly what is happening to Trump.

This animation is amazing... Every time I watch it, I see a new little detail... Brilliant!!!
The fact this is posted by Al-Jazeera is pure comedy.
Adobo Those bruh...
Chomsky himself has alluded to the idea of just lifting the veil.
His audacity should have called it The Deconstruction of Involvement through this Obligatorily Overwhelming Temporal Fabric with Each of Us already Having Failed and Succeeded Prior to Reading This
Instead, he called it Manufacturing Consent
The main thing that seperates this video and Chomsky's actual introduction to Manufacturing Consent is the framing. This video kind of frames the theory in a way that makes it seem overly conspiratorial, especially with the wacky animation, (personally I enjoy the crazy art style, but I think it's out of place here) whereas the 5 filters are literally just a reflection of the reality of the way media works.
