I awoke early and checked to see what played overnight on Siriusly Sinatra satellite radio: click the “back one hour” button (twice). It's Frank Sinatra Jr with a superb (orchestral) rendition of CRY ME A RIVER. Click “forward one hour” -- Matt Forbes' take on the same great song! We've already shared our love for Matt's version -- featuring a young guitar virtuoso armed with a Fender, “shredding” as musicians say, - in the midst of a driving "James Bond -influenced" chart from one of today's best young orchestrators.
So let's find another favorite track from Matt Forbes to appreciate: THE ONE I LOVE BELONGS TO SOMEBODY ELSE. I'm crazy about this back-beat 'bounce' arrangement. My new favorite from Matt's recent 'Solitary Man' album. Try not to get happy or get up and dance. I defy you! Love the closing call-and-response with the voices of the top-flight jazz musicians at the close.

Musical concept? What does it mean?
Hey Ulo! That speaks to the collaboration between me and my arranger, Callum Au. I spend several months working out the musical/arranging concepts for each song (creating 'sketches'). I then share these with Callum, who edits these down and brings his own (brilliant) concepts to the mix in the actual arranging.
Don't listen to the 1959 version.
Love Frank but that version is a bit of a dirge…the ‘61 takes the cake for me! 👏🏻
