The 7th was other departments in Healthcare that are also in other businesses, just to get your foot in the door, such as HR, accounting, or information technology.
Thank you very much for sharing your experience with me!
I have learned a lot about transferring previous skills into the current occupation.
You have made my day by giving me confidence in continuing with Hospital Administration and Health Care Management.
Ok this is a great link. I have my BA in healthcare administration and MPH. I still have no job in the field. I currently work as an Endoscopy Technician II in GI! Thank you!
Thanks for this! I’m starting my DHA program next month.
I am loving this! I have over 13 years experience in coordinating, insurance verification, claims and customer service all in Healthcare. I am now gearing up to go back to school to get my BA in administration and this helps encourage me. Instant sub!
Continue to be a light to others despite you being nervous. We love and appreciate you!
Thank you for your valuable Information!!! It's appreciated! I'm glad I came across you. Needed. Have a good day.
Hey Courtney!! I’m just coming back to watch this video again, it’s crazy that you mention how you got to 500 subscribers at this video one whole year ago! And now you’re over 10k subscribers! So congratulations to you!! I hope you’re doing well ❤️
Hi Courtney, Thank you so much for all this information. It is very helpful. I am trying to make a career shift and needed a place like this. Thank you again.
Courtneyyyyy. This page is amazing and was exactly what I was looking for!! I did my undergrad in Biotechnology and right now I'm thinking of making a transition into Healthcare Administration. I am infact very nervous about it but these videos are really motivational. Hopefully I'll make it in life just like you ♡
Hi shona, would like to connect with you on the same topic you commented. If possible can you please comment back. I really need a guidance.
I have also done my undergrad in biotechnology and wanting to move in healthcare administration. If you change to healthcare administration, please share your experience about the course and it's responsibilities. That would be great help!!
Now watching numerous videos from you, and thank you so much !! Trying to find a way into healthcare admin with a BS in biochemistry. Appreciate it !!
I'm so glad you're finding my videos informative!
LTC is another area; I went from a receptionist in an urgent care setting, health information tech (medical records), an assistant business office manager, then business office manager. A Business office manager basically manages all accounts receivable functions of a nursing home including preparing write-offs for year end. This experience really leveled me up and for anyone trying to get a head start I would definitely recommend long term care. Also, nursing homes need licensed administrators. Those are 6 figure jobs and you are responsible for managing the nursing home. This is also great experience that is transferable. It requires a bachelors in any field, so many hours of an administrator in training, and to pass the test. Long term care really needs more leaders to care for our geriatric population..
Hi Mandarin Orange! Awesome experience.
I recently read the below articles about the future of LTC. Check them out when you get a chance and tell me what you think.

They don’t take leaders. They take stooges to squeeze every possible dollar out of each patient even when it is clinically inappropriate. Your job is find more ways to make money for the organization without it getting sued. That is your real job.
@@MrBrewman95 yes. Many healthcare organizations are for profit. I don’t think they lead anyone to believe otherwise. Healthcare is absolutely a business first..it’s not free. We don’t have universal healthcare and it’s not a right to everybody, although it should be. What is your point?
@@emmoh2928 right💯 how stressful is your job?
Ooh.. You gave me hope now while I am feeling down. I have a bachelor degree in science of Genetics but I am working as Receptionist/medical office Admin in a clinic and I am thinking to go for health care/hospital administration.. What can I do to be there?
Sooo grateful I stumbled across your channel. This is exactly what I need to further pursue my career.
Yay! I'm so glad you're here :)
Thank you very much for posting this video. It is truly appreciated.
My pleasure!!
I started as a cna (16 years) moved on to Health Information Coordinator (medical rec’s), admissions director and looking for a preceptor to start AIT. There are ways to move up, work ethic and belief are the best ways!
Thank you for posting. I just found your channel
Hello Courtney, I'm new to your channel and actually found it when researching HIT career information. The first video I watched was your live chat on entry level careers for those who don't have healthcare experience which is me. I'm in career transition (age 50+) and am working on an AAS degree in HIT. Thank you for providing valuable information for those of us new to the field, and for your encouragement and great videos. I look forward to learning more about healthcare management and your wealth of knowledge and sharing with others. Blessings to you and your family.
Hi Susan! I'm happy you're here and so glad you're finding the info helpful. Thank you for the kind words and blessings. Sending many blessings to you too!
I'm 50 years old and have worked in the operating room for over 27years. My old body has had enough lol. I'm curious about what you mentioned, HIT. If there is a way for me to use my years of experience and still stay connected to healthcare. That would be best I would hope. I really don't want to repeat so many classes if I have to go back to college.
It's good to see that I am not the only 50+ person going back to school to obtain a higher level of education and further my career. I have been in the medical field for over 25 years in both clinical and support roles, but it is time to change course and increase my income to live the second part of my life the way that I want. I am so glad that I found your channel!
New sub! I work in a different part of healthcare in claims management. Though I am very interested in some entry level roles in healthcare insurance. I appreciate the content!
I'm new to your channel. Thank you for your good Information. I'm glad I found you. It's Appreciated. Thank you.
I just wanted to say thank you this video has been very informative!!!!
Hi,
I am glad I found your videos! I recently graduated with my nursing degree but I don’t want to be a nurse at all, so now I am working on masters in health care administration. I am more of a business person, I currently work as a bed coordinator and a HIM tech, trying to further my experience! I just turned 25, I know it’s not much but I am trying!
This was so helpful. I am an ER Unit Secretary but I want to get into Healthcare Administration. This was so awesome and God truly led me here! 🙏🏾👏🏾🤗
What does a unit secretary do?
This is all very helpful. I have one more year left of getting my BA in Healthcare Administration. I was fortunate enough to work at a hospital doing patient transport for 7 years, also working at a PCA company. After getting laid off, I got a job working as therapy support in a Children's hospital and recently just went on call there, after getting hired as an Information Coordinatior at another hospital working the front desk in Radiology. It is hard to get a foot in the door but once you are in you can move around so much.
Hi Alexis, do you have linkedin profile? I would love to connect with you and I have some questions!
Glad to hear you found the info helpful! I agree with you 100% about the opportunities after you get your foot in the door!
I have a background psychology degree, was a behavioral health technician and ran an online business I didn't really know how to transfer skills to applying to health care administration, this was really helpful I took notes haha
I've worked for an IPA medical group for 6 years, assisting nurses & social workers with the clerical side of patient care coordination & enter auths for providers.
My only medical exp was my 2 month M.A externship (which I didn't include in my resume) & office asst exp. Basically, I got in with only office exp, no degree & I love my job so much, I'm now getting my AS in Healthcare Admin.
Sometimes, you would REALLY have to know ppl to get in those places & lucky enough for me, I did know someone. From there on, I've gotten a few of my friends in with no medical exp & they've moved up to do medical claims, etc.
I know ppl who have master's in their respective fields but work in a restaurant. What I've learned was no matter what degree u have, with no exp or connections, it'll be hard to find a job. Lucky for me, I had both.
Thank you so much for positing this!
I’m so glad you enjoyed it!!
Thank you for creating these videos on Healthcare Administration. I would like to share another career path tip from my personal experience. A Business Development Representative is great if you're into sales/marketing of HCA Admin. I spent one year in this position, and it was the highlight of my career. Due to my skills and knowledge, I decided it wasn't the career path I wanted to go.
Why did you stop? I was thinking into getting into sells? Thanks
Dr. Comer is one of the only other people I’ve seen talk about health administration on CZcams and he has been so inspiring to me and my journey towards achieving my BHA. So thankful that I found your channel and can gain more knowledge, especially in female leadership.
Hi Erin! It means so much to hear that you're finding this info helpful. So, Dr. Cromer who participated in my live event is Dr. Albany Cromer! She works in healthcare administration as well. She's the Director of Human Capital and Information Technology at a large hospital in SC. She doesn't have a YT channel but you can find her on IG @justcallme_drcromer. She is always happy to answer any questions about this field.
I checked out Dr. Jeff Cromer's channel. I'm about to binge-watch all of his videos. Thanks for the suggestion :)
@@CourtneySharea Yes, Dr. Jeff Comer is very intelligent and has a lot of helpful information. Just wish he would post more. 😕 I will check out Dr. Albany Comer as well. Thank you!
Hi Courtney! Thank you for making this video! I’m currently looking to change careers from television journalism to healthcare administration ( yes I know, very different from one another :) ) however , I do believe there are many transferable skills ie. communication, liaising with organizations/others, time management and etc. I have a masters degree so another degree from a university is not within my financial budget right now. Instead, I was hoping to enter the field by completing a program and becoming a certified medical assistant at a small private practice and working my way up to a healthcare manager or healthcare administrative position (perhaps obtaining another certification in healthcare administration.) In your professional opinion, is this an advisable entry level job to achieve my career path goals?
Hey Courtney!
Great video, very informative. Currently applying for a receptionist job to try to get more experience and will be looking for internships as well. I’m just hoping and praying I could get a job soon after graduating next spring. 🤞🏽🙏🏼
Hi Elizabeth! I'm glad you found this video informative! Sending you many blessings!
Hello Ms. Sharea,
Great information and video. Thank you for sharing. I am a charge capture specialist with a hospital organization. It has been a journey that I truly encourage others to explore. There are so many opportunities in the healthcare administration field. Thanks again for this
Thanks again for this video.
Hi Humbled Sis! I'm glad you found the video informative!
Sending you many blessings and positivity!
So glad to have found your channel. I have my bachelors in healthcare administration and have had a rough time finding a job with it. I have been using my coding certification to be able to work, but ready to move on from it.
Does having a coding certification provide decent income though? I have a my masters in Healthcare Admin but I haven’t found work yet and want something to do until I find a job
Coding pay well and you get to work from home
did you ever find a job?@@symphony2929
Hi! I’m a new subscriber. I work at medical call center in the complaint department. At my current my job I need a degree because I’m about to max out for pay. I’m torn between going back for nursing or health care administration/ management. I have been trying to get into the hospitals in my area for like three years. I’m truly glad I found your channel.
I'm so happy you're here! Sending you many blessings on your education and career journey!
hi, thank you for this video. do you have any advice for someone trying to get back into healthcare I'm having a hard time getting an entry-level position? I graduated with my BS in health science in 2015 but when I moved I was only able to get a job in banking.
It is beautiful that I can work in a pharmaceutical practice with my Healthcare Admin ❤ thank you for sharing.
I am so happy I ran across your videos!! I am set to graduate fall of 2022 with my bachelor's in health service administration. I am actually kind of nervous about graduating, with no actual experience in administration. I am also late at the game as I raised my kids first prior to attending school for my career, so a lot of my concern is towards competing with the younger crowd.. I did run my own business for 9 years but it was in an auto repair shop before I went to school for nursing and did that for 3 years. What suggestions would you have for getting my foot in the door? I was hoping to get into insurance or long-term care..
Hi Jennifer! It's nice to meet you. Leverage your transferrable skills and you'll be good to go. Check out my Healthcare Admin Q&A when you have a moment, there's some good info in there too! Thank you!
I miss a god ol’ southern storm! University of Alabama! Thanks for this video

Hi Girl ! I am also a Biology major but it’s so hard getting experience in Health administration, since I don’t have any background in administration. How is the process going for you ?
Hi! Dr. Comer
Thank you so much for your videos, I just graduated with my B.S in health Service Administration and I don't know what to do with my life.... you are really helping me finding my career path. Thank you so much! 💜

This is the perfect channel for me. I am a pediatric dentist currently completing my DBA in healthcare management and leadership. I'm very interested in the field and excited to see what opportunities are available to me.
Hi Julien! I'm glad you're here! Let me know if there are any specific career options that you're interested in that you would like for me to cover in a future video.
Sending you many blessings on your education and career journey!
I wish I came across this way before. You’re absolutely correct about the benefits of working as a medical receptionist..very versatile…I’m now a day surg. Unit sec /pt coordinator. It’s okay but, it isn’t very rewarding for me now.
Hi Courtney! New subscriber here. I'm so glad I found your channel. I'm a recent career changer who is working in healthcare (direct patient care) but looking to get into the non-clinical side of things. I want to work in Healthcare Administration field and I found your videos so helpful. I'm planning on going back to school to get a MHA or MBA in healthcare management. Do you have a preference for which degree to get or which degree would be overall marketable?
Hi Chasity! It’s nice to meet you 🤗 I’m so glad you found the videos helpful. I honestly believe you can’t go wrong either way. Look at the curriculum for both programs and see which one fits your learning and career needs most.
I hope this helps!
Awesome video! I have a BHA degree and MHA degree. I think the field has great possibilities.
I agree!
This video found me at the perfect time as I just had a meltdown from a job that was not what I had in mind after graduation. I’m definitely in need of mentors and entry level career opportunities. I’m a new grad with a healthcare administration degree and an applied business certificate and I have not been able to find anything and I don’t have any experience in a hospital or clinic setting.
Hi Geordia! I’m happy to hear that you know your worth and walked away from a job that wasn’t serving your properly. You don’t need experience to apply. Just leverage your transferable skills and customize your resume to each job you apply to!
This is exactly what I’m going through currently! It hasn’t been easy.
Hi Courtney, Great video. Your video has given me a hope to achieve my goal. I finished my BS in healthcare Administration but still struggling to find an entry level job. Right now, I am working in a Nursing home as a Medtech and I have applied for the Concierge to get some experience on administrative but unfortunately the pay rate for concierge is less than what I am getting now.
I have a question. If I do LPN on a side, is it plus point to get the management position in the future? I am planning to join LPN class. I want someone to help me on my decision. Looking forward to some reply. Thanks,
Wow, this video is so helpful! Thank you!
Hi Jackeline! I'm so glad you found this video informative! ☺️
Hi Courtney - I love your content, extremely helpful. I am interested in changing career paths to entering the Nursing Home Administrator field. I have a medical biller and medical administrative assistant background as it relates to the medical industry. However, I have over 15 years of administrative skills outside of the medical field. I have a double bachelors in Psychology and Criminal Justice, and I am currently a licensed NJ real estate agent. My question to you is; what would be a great starting salary as an AIT/Assistant Nursing Home Administrator? Thank you in advance 😊
Hi Courtney great video!!!! I have a question I have a bachelors in HA and a MBA. I’ve been at my current job for 12 yrs working as a Data Analyst and was promoted this yr to a position making 60k. I’m really trying to take steps to get to 80k a year. Which direction should I go? It was so hard to find a job in HA all these years, so I continued with the job I received through a internship. At this moment I feel like I stayed too long and I’m stuck.
I really enjoy your channel and am so grateful for the resources you put forth! I graduated with my BHA in March and I am working as a patient registration rep. What type of jobs would you suggest as a next step towards upward movement?

Hello. I just found your video and I see that you are from Charleston. I am from Myrtle Beach. I am a certified nursing assistant and I’m about to finish my bachelors in business and health management. With my skills what do you recommend I do as far as applying for a job?
Hi!!! Thanks for posting these videos, I've been wanting to get into the healthcare field for so long and you have convicted me that I can do this!!! I'm looking into starting Bachelor's Program at Snhu with no previous experience. Do you think this is a good idea?
Hi Friday! I think it's a good idea if you're interested in working in this field! Good luck!

Can you please discuss functions of health care administrator or manager?
Im a BSN nurse but I have multiple injuries which makes it hard to work the floors. Plus I’m already 60. would it be a good idea for me to get an MBA in healthcare?
Hi Courtney
Of course I would find this one after seeing the first video.
Thanks for this information
No I never thought about the equipment jobs
Can you do any of these international
Do you know of any jobs like this
Hi Courtney, I am super excited over this content especially entering the healthcare administration job without experience and leveraging on former job experience. I am a mediator and have a Certification on healthcare administration,. Do you think I can fit in? I love healthcare administration ❤
I've been thinking about going back for healthcare administration.. I've been in medical billing and coding for 15 years
Wow! That's impressive. There are a ton of revenue cycle management opportunities that do not require any additional education.
I still love this video. I've been on a couple of interviews but the challenges I've come across is that I do not have any experience in handling patient files and EMR. Also, with living in Miami, a lot of these medical offices are looking for spanish speakers only. Spanish required is popping up all over job requisitions now. I've noticed that if you don't have spanish language written onto your resume, it is overlooked. If you do get an interview they ask if you speak any other languages. I feel when I say no, I am being looked down upon. Due to Covid, there has been no volunteer opportunities available. I am feeling defeated.
Join the Peace Corps and immerse yourself to get fluent.

Are they colleges which provide admissions to students like us with no expirence ?
Yes
Hi Courtney
Hello Courtney, am from Africa and i have a bachelor's in English. I want to go back to school and am looking at healthcare administration. Would you advise i start with a BHA since i have never done anything health or management related or i could just jump into MHA without facing any future problems? Also, from where i come from, a bachelor's usually takes four years, but the schools am looking at here in Arizona gives you only 15 weeks to complete it and am confused as to how legit that is and if it will not pose any problems during job search? Please advise
I want to get my HIT and get rhit credentialed but develop my career through billing! Since billing is the first course(s) anyway
What is your opinion on coursea classes to improve resumes when looking for entry level jobs?
Thank you so much for this video. I graduated with my BS in Healthcare Administration almost a year ago and I have no idea what to do with my degree. I moved to Texas and applied to every hospital around and was rejected.
Hi Diamond! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Keep applying and make sure to customize your resume to each job. Sending positivity and many blessings your way. Keep me posted on how your job search goes!
I am going through the same thing in TX, Diamond. I wish you the best. We will get there.
Is it possible that Diamond doesn’t have a master degree that’s why it takes so long to get a job? I was told by my professor that I need to get my masters if I need to be considered for job.
Wishing love the best Diamond
Same I graduated with a bachelors in Health Services Administration in May 2020, and to this day I have not been able to get a job in the field. I did a bootcamp and got a couple of entry level IT certifications and was able to get a job in the IT field. Now I’m planning to supplement what I’m learning in the field into the emerging market of Health Informatics. I’m starting my master’s in Health Informatics with a concentration in data management next year, I believe that this is one of the best fields one can get into right now. First there is a short supply of qualified individuals to enter the field, and there is a healthy supply of jobs, higher than average.
Hello…I am trying to get a remote medical records position. Currently working on EMR certification. I don’t want to pursue bachelor’s or master in HIM. Hope certification will help..Really excited about this field tho…
I’m currently taking my CMOM .. I worked from medical records to referral coordinator to billing Assistant to financial counselor 3 to charge entry specialist currently for 7 provider urology practice… but not a lot of people will hire practice manager with no experience
Agreed.

I recently applied to Western Governors University, praying to receive my Bachelor's in Healthcare Management. The field is so broad and I'm really excited. Thank You so much in advance for all of your knowledge, and advice. Stay Blessed!!
Hi Chazzy! It's so nice to meet you. I pray that you get accepted into the Healthcare Management program at WGU. Feel free to email me with any specific questions you may have about healthcare administration and I will answer them for you. courtneysharea@gmail.com.
Chazzy I am applying this week for Healthcare management as well!! I have been a Medical Assistant for 13 years and I love it, but I thrive in a leadership/admin role. Good luck to you on your journey!!!!!
I’m looking to apply to WGU as well!
@@schellby7207 I'm so sorry for the late response. Thank you so much for the well wishes, its greatly appreciated. I wish you all the best in your endeavors as well. God Bless
@@lolgeselle My experience with applying has been a breeze. My admission counselor is Heaven sent lol. My start date is August 1, 2021. I cant tell you how excited I am to start this amazing journey.
Graduate with my Masters in Healthcare Services Administration in the spring of ‘22. What kind of jobs should I be looking for? What salary should I be negotiating? Being in school during COVID has limited our ability to make connections and meet potential mentors so I’m so lost.
Can we get an update on how you're doing?
@@InvuNOT2 I actually start pharmacy school in August, which is good because I struggled to find an entry level position within healthcare admin that paid well.
You’re the best
What’s is the difference between healthcare management and healthcare administration?
