  • Can you wear a utility kilt or other contemporary kilt formally?
How far can you dress up a cargo kilt?
    Forward fashion or goofy Americanism?

For me utility kilt are the kilt version of say blue jeans. You wouldn't wear them formal necessarily.

I have several kilts all tartan. I don't have a utility kilt but looking to get a black or grey one but don't think I would wear it in a formal setting. Maybe low end semi formal event but that's it. Good video

Mark Samuel I love tartans and that’s why I haven’t considered getting a utility kilt.

I wear utility kilt with shirt, tie, waistcoat and jacket to work... not a tux though or Prince Charlie. Goes well with an Argyle

I have a beat-up second hand Utilikilt Worman from Ebay that is my knockabout weekend yardwork kilt. I have another Workman that I try to keep nice. My wife likes to see me in it when we go out. I'll wear shirts similar to the black on in this video, too. But to a formal event, unless it's a themed event, not so much.

I love my utility kilt but I would never wear it as part of a black tie evening, or even church for that matter.

If it's TRULY formal (black tie, tuxedo, etc.), tartan with all the trimmings; but you can get pretty close with a modern kilt if you dress it up right.

Utility kilt as formal wear? Nope. I agree with those that are saying it's like wearing jeans, or maybe Dockers. You wouldn't wear either to a formal occasion (ok, some of us Texans might wear really nice jeans and boots with a jacket and tie... but that's just us 🤣).
As for what I _do_ wear with my utility kilt? Sorry gentlemen, but I do wear a sporran (Rob Roy) with my utility kilt, because I don't like the feel of my kilt with the side/cargo pockets full of stuff. Oh, and I wear kilt hose complete with flashes with my utility kilt too. And no sneakers (I wear day hiking boots). Sooo, I guess I'm doing it all wrong! 😄

what i would wear wiht a utility kilt any thing that i woudl wear wiht a jeans( i do wear some time a shirt with a jeans ( just nto white but example red shirt yes i woudl wear it with a utlity kilt , as long as it doesnt get too bad looking . but would i wear tie wiht a utility kilt no, would i wear a argyll jacket yes cause i dont have day wear sport jacket style ( so i wear my argyll jacket as a normal sport jacket ( with t-shirt when i get a modern looking jacket the argyll will be more fency use but until then my argyll is worn as equal of a sport jacket, (since i only have 2 kind of jacket that look good wiht kilt ( 1 argyll and 1 prince charlie(wish i wear formaly only )
i recently got my utility kilt from ut kilt , and i like it very much, its a plain kilt , i plan on getting a nother in tartan from themm , and i have one also already on its ways from ebay( yes made in pakistan i know but i go wiht the price more than where it is done , )
i do wear still hose and flash with my utility kilt cause i dont want to show my lets at all ( leg freckle i dont like mine cause some time i i think they look like if my legs are dirty not cleaned.
do i wear sporran wiht my uility kilt ( my ut kilt has jeans pocket so i dont need them but if they have only cargo then i probably will waer a s porran (cause the gargo often are to low and i have harder time to go pcik in those )

All the pockets are removable on my utility so I could probably pull off the semi-dress sporran and a nice shirt if I ever went anywhere semi-formal,I don't, But i would probably just do my traditional.

While I agree with the comments presented in the video, I will say that it's not personal opinion if you can or cannot wear a utility kilt to a formal gathering. It's just an absolute "no". There are conventions covering this. Black tie is black tie, formal is formal, et cetera.
As the lads said: consider a utility kilt like a pair of jeans or cargo shorts. You wouldn't wear cargo shorts and a polo shirt to a formal affair or wedding. You'd just look like a complete twat.
I'm fortunate enough to have a kiltmaker in my town (who designs and registers tartans). She made my kilt and I wear it with a Prince Charlie arrangement - which can easily work as black tie, but can also be dressed down. I've worn my kilt with a t-shirt and boots, and it still looks awesome. Albeit not as functional as a utility kilt, I concede.
I don't own a utility kilt, but I'm very keen to get one just for super casual stuff.
