I recently watched the lead NDI architect in a discussion about the release of NDI 6 and when asked about security, he basically said there was none. I don't know much about 2110 other than it requires massive bandwidth. Im currently designing a digital signage system which doesn't cache locally but relies on rtmp and hls - currently using h264 but will probably go h265 and eventually av1. However i will be able to use certificates and proxies to help manage security risks. Its old tech, but it will work and it will work cheaply. A lot of it is about how much latency you can tolerate and signage is not as sync critical as video mixing. I think the lesson is, don't underestimate what you already have when designing systems.
