The fact that we can no longer tell the difference between a troll and a straight up idiot is kinda scary to me. Like there really are people who say and think these things so you never know whether to laugh at someone’s joke or be scared by their stupidity.

This is called "Poe's Law". It was originally formulated as, "Without a winking smiley or other blatant display of humor, it is utterly impossible to parody a Creationist in such a way that _someone_ won't mistake for the genuine article." It has since been expanded to cover all cases where sarcasm and stupidity are equally likely explanations for something someone says. This is why it's highly recommended you use an emoji or something when using sarcasm, so that people won't just think that you're dumb.

@@HiEv001 The problem with the winking emoji or other such emoji's is those same stupid people also use those to emphasize how smug they are or how superior they think they are, so even emoji's don't work, you basically have to finish a joke with /s so people will know it's a joke.

13:37 for anyone who is interested, it is a mezuzah it has verses from the Torah inside of it. The symbols written are the first letters of the Hebrew alphabet. Not all of the mezuzot have the letters. The letters represent the Tablets of the Covenant (you can kinda see the shape) And the big letter on top is the first letter in god's name.
You hang it on the door frame.
It's main purpose is to remember that god exists. So like when you get inside or out of the room/house, you will remember that god is always there.

I'm getting tired of certain people calling any enjoyment or participation in another culture "cultural appropriation." I get it, I'm not from that culture, but me enjoying their food, music, media, etc. or adopting a hair style reminiscent of it isn't me appropriating it.
Cultural appropriation is where you disrespect a culture by exploiting it or misrepresenting it. "Fortune Cookies" are a great example of this as they were literally marketed as authentic (they are based in reality, but aren't the original and highly americanized), while simultaneously mutliple people claimed to have invented them whole cloth without any outside influence, in which they did not (they are actually based on a cookie very similar to it originally made in Kyoto Japan). Funnily enough, these americanized fortune cookies are more closely associated with chinese restaurants in America, not Japanese... so its a little bit worse.
Now, you can be influenced by other cultures and create things based off of that influence, as this is how cultures mix and create cool new things... but the key is to be respectful, open, and most importantly, informed. Stop trying to segregate people away from other cultures just because you can't wrap your head around people respectfully enjoying them.

I was ahead of all the other girls by a long way and most of the guys too. Then I 'died' my legs turned to jelly and I could barely walk. I was limping along slowly and everyone who had trained and was running sensibly passed me. I finished 36th out of 38. The two below me didn't complete the race as they were ill.

Maus is a really great book that's about the holocaust and its generational trauma ripple effects. The authors dad lived through it and the author has been on the receiving end of the generational trauma about it.
If they took the time to read the about on the book, they'd know that.

@@larsknoblauch589 A marathon is 42 kilometers or 26.1 miles. It's impossible to *walk* that distance in 3 hours. If you are used to walking you might manage to walk 4 to 5 kilometers per hour at a steady pace, meaning you can walk a marathon in 8 to 9 hours. Most people won't be able to walk that kind of distance, though.
