  • In this episode, I'll sample my own kick drum and use stock plugins in REAPER to trigger the sample from another audio source.

I forgive you for the sound quality Myk.
    Cool video man.
A method I use is to duplicate a kick track (for example) and split it at the transients, then from the Reaper media explorer there is the option to replace the track's media with any sample you like.

    good good!
quick tip: doing this with double-kick drums, just lay down another track and do different trigger/sample settings separately - it's easier than trying to find perfect compromise settings for different kick density across song ;)

I just wanna say that you have been the most helpful youtuber when it comes to mixing drums. my first attempt was this past weekend and youve been a great help

Thanks, Myk. When blending kicks, I sometimes need to tune and phase align the tails to avoid mush, except in high-volume genres where a boomy tail would sound crap in a club or on a system with a great subwoofer. Then the tail can go and the lows are taken over by the sub-bass after the hit. Thinking about it, I'm not very discerning as I only make music for myself as a hobby. 😀

Hell yeah, this is exactly what I am looking for. Did my layers per Hand over a couple of bars yet, what is still fine getting an alive floating SD Sound f.e. - but this is abreal cool fast hack. Thank this man.

  • @ARE_YOU_SICK_OF_YT_CENSORSHIP

exporting a sample as a new file may be avoided by opting for importing a trimmed item containing the kick part directly into the RS5k via Import from Arrange option, or it can be trimmed after the fact inside the RS5k, then the item can be deleted from the project

Lol, I can read navelpluisje. It's Dutch for belly button lint. :)
But great info in this video. I'm a noob in Reaper and this to me was very informative. I could even see myself synthesize a kick and blend that in, when necessary.
After listening for a minute or so, I didn't even noticed the 'bad' audio recording anymore. I've heard worse. It maybe wasn't the best, but definitely not that bad.
*Edit* Looking through your other videos, there's a lot that look interesting, so I subscribed to your channel.

Thanks! Hey Myk, this video is awesome I was actually just think about how I do this with my sons drums. Also I just tried exporting single elements from EZ drummer so I could import them into reaper and was successful. Anyway thanks for all your content.

I do so many things from muscle memory that I'm not sure what you mean 🤣 can you give me a timestamp where I do what you mean?
If you mean making a track taller, Shift+1 (exclamation point) is the default key to increase the size of the currently selected track(s)

@@LetsTalkAboutReaper the tilde (~) key is also great for shrinking and growing overall tracks size.
