Thank you for clearing up my noise issues.
Jake what a great demo and tool! I wish I could but can't at the moment. Still, I'm totally stoked with the possibilities. Very cool!!
ESCAGEDO WOODWORKING Thanks Eloy!! Things have just begun!! I’m glad you liked the video Brother!!
Excellent presentation for the beginner, especially regarding the computer program. Most who I've seen explain these programs act as though they've had 3 pots of coffee, thanks again and best of success.
Awesome job man, I really liked how you showed us how everything works so we're not so intimidated by it.
Jake Carter Thanks JAKE!! When I bought it, I had no idea how it all worked. It’s not so difficult, and it’s a ton of fun.. I’m glad you enjoyed the video!!👍👊
Jake Thompson I would really like it if you could make a series of videos with the cnc where you go into more detail on how to do more intricate work. I know there's lots of others that have cnc videos but I like your down home style and approach.
Jake Carter I’m glad to hear that, I’m going to do more of it.. between project videos. It was my second attempt at screen recording.. I learned a lot on this one. When I make the cnc how to videos, I will put them in a playlist for easy access. 👍
Really good review. I liked seeing the programing side as well as the operation of the machine. Got to get one someday.
David Burch Thanks David.. it’s just like anything else. It looks complicated until you jump in and just do it!! 👍😄
Greetings Jake, this is one of the best demonstrations I've seen so far. Simple and to the point! The only thing I did not like about this video was the fact that you said 'Marines are the coolest'... You know deep in your heart the Navy rocks! I subscribed to your channel. Keep up the good work brother!
Thank you brother.. You are correct.. The Navy is the most awesome water Taxi I’ve ever used. 😂😂 👍
I work for Rockler in Garland and we sell the Laguna CNC machines, and they are Great. Well done video!! Thanks, Wayne
Great video. I learned a lot! Thanks for putting this together.
I have been waiting for this!!!! Watching now.
Smoky Mountain Sawdust So cool man.. I got the E-Mail from Patreon.. I’m Honored that you are my first one.. can’t wait to put your name on my next shop update!!
Review was awesome. I suppose the water is recycled. Do you have to change it every so often? Would love to get one some day. I couldn't not support you Jake, your my favorite channel. I have been real busy, upgrading the shop. Also got into some lumber supplying. Got me a chainsaw and trailer. Found some log suppliers (free logs). Already up to 1,200 bf of poplar, 800 bf of white oak, 700 bf black walnut. Hopefully will start recording in the next couple weeks. I'll post some pictures on Patreon.
Smoky Mountain Sawdust Sweeeeet!!! The water is in a covered bucket., it stays clean, but easy to change if need be. 👍👍
Awesome demo! I have the PiranhaXL and run VCarve Desktop. I'm currently finishing up a sign that I'm working on for a reverse raffle.
Cross Cut Creations I’m glad you liked the video Robert!! Can’t wait to see the sign!
Great video Jake!! I am so excited and chomping at the bit for my Laguna to get here lol. They don’t mess around, my 4x8 unit has the same 3hp liquid cooled spindle as your IQ, quality quality quality..... I don’t know John but my Sales rep is Jason, totally professional, very helpful, great team over there I look forward to turning my shop into a Laguna shop, lol I’ve got the P-flux dust collector and supermaxx sander coming as well 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 - and of course you sold out of USMC crosses hahahahaha OOOOOH RAAAHHHH - good stuff brother👊🏻
Al Schulze - WoodworX I cant wait to see you get your shop going!! I’m pretty excited for you!!
Great job Jake. Good run down.
ManCraftingTM Thanks Chad!! Now I have to stop messing around and get ready for the car show!!👍👊
Nice video Jake. The Laguna looks like a very nice machine. I bought a Camaster this year and I am super happy with it. CNC is definitely an adventure, but a rewarding experience.
The Hamlin Woodshop Glad you enjoyed the video! I’ve been wanting to make it for a while now.. I love the cnc, it opens up a whole new world.. I just wish I had more free time to mess around with it. 👍👊
As far as I can tell, you better be really young or fully retired to get the most out of a CNC router! I hear ya Jake. I say that every night when I leave my shop....wish I had more time to mess with the CNC. lol.
I have been doing small scale woodcraft flags guidons etc... for about 2 years. I am actually upgrading and going "professional" as in I am retired and want to make extra hobby money. I enjoyed your video because you really got me thinking about the Laguna system. Thanks for the information and have a great day.
30 years ago I would never have believed that someone would be able to buy a CNC machine for their garage. It also blows my mind
that there is software out there that even a beginner can use to program these machines to make some pretty cool stuff. The funny thing about
this is that the technology being used in the "hobby" machines is actually quite old.
Great vid. Now I want one. Also, being a native Texan, I want a Texas clock! Ya Hoo! Seriously, great job on the demo. Keep it up.
the blue arrows on the windows shifts you back and forth between the draw and toolpath windows.
Nice! Good job!!
Very interesting mate, I’ve worked on EDM (Electro Discharging Machine) & Milling machines in my last life but the concept remains the same, highly accurate machines & I think you’ve only touched upon the potential of this, I wonder if you could do a tutorial series here, all forms of woodworking apparatus are relevant & thank you for introducing an entry level perspective to it 👍👍👍
Sumo's Projects I’m glad you liked the video buddy. I’ve just begun on this machine. I sure have learned a lot and still have tons to learn. That’s what’s so great.. I will probably never get bored of it!! 👍👊
BEST VIDEO OUT THERE ON ZEROING ORGIN AND PROCESS TO MAKE FIRST CUT. SO MUCH NONSENSE TO SEARCH THROUGH BEFORE FINDING THIS
Hi Jake.. great video. I have a Laguna IQ and it's worked pretty much trouble free for 7 yrs now. Unfortunately, I accidentally "Wiped the Cache" on the hand-held controller and lost my Pulse Equivalent settings. Apparently Laguna customer service isn't open on weekends :( Any chance you could tell me what the Pulse Eqiv. settings are in your controller?? They should be what mine are supposed to be. Thank you!
I love the videos my man! What pc/system/memory, etc. are you running your software on? I want to get this, but need to update my old pc to one that handles good. Thanks.
MrKly123 Before I bought the cnc I thought I would need a computer just for this. Turns out it doesn’t take a super computer to do this. I have a cheap toshiba lap top that I do everything on. The laptop has 1 tb of storage and you can use cheap jump drives.. I was worried about it also, but I shouldn’t have been. I hope this helps and I’m glad you enjoy the videos!
hiwin rail 15mm or 20mm ?
I like all your videos. I have to admit, though, I've never used an EDM and I'm glad you don't work for Laguna IQ. ;)
Good video. Just a quick question, what pressure is coming out of the spindle cooling pipes? I also have the same and the pressure is just a trickle coming out but high pressure going in
Great video Jake! Do you have plans for the stand you built for the cnc? Getting ready to order the IQ.
Bgon81 They are called 2x4 basics.. I have links in the description. They work pretty well.. I have a video on it too.. look up 2x4 basics and my video will be there!! 👍👊
Awesome video, very informative on this CNC. Liked, Subscribed & Notifications checked 👍🏻 Thanks
COASTAL INVESTIGATIONS Thank you very much. I’m glad you enjoyed the video! 👍👍👍
Good info Jake! I am new to CNC and am considering purchasing something like this. Can you also do cutouts of wood material 2-3 inches thick?
Mike Juett You can but it’s tight.. they make taller gantries for this to do thicker material.
There are tools in the edit drop down menu that with center everything you want with one click. Vertical horizontal all kinds of tools.
1969Donovan Yes.. totally correct.. sometimes I forget the easy way.. I learn every time I use the software. Thanks for watching and for the tip. 👍👊
Kerning?
Hello,
Thank you for posting this very informative video. I am in the process of buying a new cnc machine but rather than buying big machine, I decided to start with small one and in particular one like yours or IQ machine from Laguna but have some questions that I would like your input on:
1- Do you have the 10 inch z axis travel or 6 inch and which one do you recommend?
2- I was told that the router can travel 2 to 3 inches beyond machine table. Is that true? This is important to me as I planned to add fixture to end of the table to do dovetail where the piece will be standing 90 to the table surface.
3- Any trouble using aspire software with IQ machine?
Thank you kindly and look forward to hearing from you
Thsnkd
Mimi Becks Thank you for watching the video and I’m glad you enjoyed it. Mine has the 6 inch travel but the 10 inch would be way better. The spindle will go down a couple inches past the bed. And Aspire works just fine with the machine. 👍👍 hope this helps..
Waiting on mine. Laguna is a bit slow on manufacturing. Hopefully it’s coming soon. Going on a month over their estimate from when I ordered it in November.
Christopher Agnoli Man, that’s unfortunate. I would call them and see if they will throw in extra stuff for the wait!
Great video sir. I was thinking of buying the New Wave HD 520, but the Laguna appeals to me.
I like your videos and got a question. I bought one of these two years ago and been so busy I'm finally around to starting it up. The owners manual talked about putting 30w oil on guides for lube lol. I was going to clean the guides off with wd4 , what kind of lube did you use and also do you lube ballscrews? Also do you know if the controller will swap to inches and not metric I can't seem to figure it out if it can
Thank you . I’m glad you enjoy the videos. I’ve had mine for quite a while now and t very thing was lubed when I got it, I just keep dust blown off with an air hose and I really haven’t done any maintenance on it.. I don’t use it very often, but it sure comes in handy when I need it. I just Change metric to inches in v-carve pro on the project setup page. 👍👍
@@JakeThompson I have aspire so when I change it to inches the controller will convert as well? When I turned the machine on it was in metric and I figured it was a parameter in the handheld. So your programs are inches on the handheld? Thx for reply been a sub for awhile on your videos
so in one of you videos you talk about wanting to get an Avid Cnc machine. is there a reason, for wanting to go that direction. i’m trying to choose between a laguna style vs. a Avid style cnc router
There’s nothing wrong with my Laguna, but you can get a bigger working area for less money with an Avid
Hi Jake I'm new to your channel. Great insight on Laguna. Do you have any recent videos?
I made over 10 videos on the IQ .. I haven’t made any new ones for a few years
Is it possible to put just the CNC table on top of the bench and the electronics box etc under the table?
Adam Coe The box won’t fit on the shelf of the bench, but you can put it on a separate table. The cords are long enough. 👍👊
Do you know if they have modules for this machine? Thanks.
Jaez85 I’m not sure, there’s a number in the description to get a hold of a Laguna Rep! Pretty helpful guy!!
Hey Jake, I received my Laguna IQ on Tuesday. I was super excited to get going, as I have watched yours and many others videos. Right off the bat the Y axis stepper motor was faulty. I didn't even get a chance to home the machine, Y never moved. After half a day on the phone with Laguna, and troubleshooting, they determined they would send a new motor, which of course will arrive who knows when. Imagine how disappointed I am with Laguna right now. I am wondering how your machine has been. Have you had any trouble? I am really hoping this is just a fluke and all will go well from here out.
I’m sorry to hear this.. the only trouble I’ve had was, I had to replace the hand held controller.. other than that it has been a Tank..
Hi Jake, Have you tried cuting lithophanes? I'm interested how it comes out with this machine.
Karén Karapetyan I haven’t tried it. But I’m sure it would do fine.. good idea though!!
I would even be willing to pay if you would agree to cut my .stl file. Let me know.
nice video , but magicly the flash drive changed colour from green to red !
John .. lol nice catch! I didn’t realize I had 2 jump drives in my pocket when I went to the shop.. of course I would pick the wrong one first.. Glad you enjoyed!👍👊
How accurately/repeatably can zero be set? Say for a toolplate with nested parts.
TBR, LLC Setting zero is very accurate! If the material is a consistent you won’t have to change zero. I find that zeroing right at the material rather than the puck is more precise.
Great review!!! I love my Laguna IQ!!! It's been a better experience than I thought!! What few questions I've had they responded right away! Im doing some modifications to my dust collection system. What did you use for the dust boot extension?
sablack2 Thanks!! I’m glad you liked the video! The dust boot extension is just a piece of super cheap 4 inch pvc. I got it from Lowe’s. 👍😄
so let’s say you have to change to a second bit the middle of a project. but there isn’t enough t of the original wood surface left to set you Z axis puck on. what do you do?
You can not use the puck and set the bit directly to the surface without the puck.. you can also set your x to the surface if your spoil board. You can set it there in the first step of the software
Why is the Pro double price? Is it worth? What are the real differences between the two except the Automatic Tool Changer?
Claudian Reyn The tool changer is an expensive upgrade. The electronics are upgraded for the entire system.. is it worth it.. it’s up to you.. I’m sure Laguna would be happy to chat with you about it. 👍
Hi, do you have any training course ?
Sommay Rasichanh I have several of these type of videos. Here is a link to the playlist.
czcams.com/play/PLSalTy4OEbUPfHgKQvj1PQqIlBFIN7FlU.html
I followed your FAIL project to the T and am having a problem with the bit not going down to the work. The machine is doing the tool route but not on the wood., about 1 inch above the wood. Any suggestions you could give me? Much appreciated.
@@JakeThompson i set the dimensions of the materials to 6 3/4 x 11 1/2 x 3/4. In the tool choice i set it to 1/2 deep. Is this what you are referring to?
@@JakeThompson I did use the puck as you show in your video. It did come down and kiss it then back up.
@@davidfurst7169 try to go straight to the work piece .. I stopped using the puck shortly after I made all these videos. If that doesn’t work.. there’s a number to Laguna in the description of this video
All the spindles have changeable collets! No emergency stop button on that hand-controller!!!
twbrkfd1 There is a cancel button on the controller that will stop the program and raise the spindle. !!!!!!
Does the software come with the machine?
all4boatin When I bought mine, the software and bit set came with it.. I’m sure it still does.. give them a call, They will be happy to talk to you!
FYI: You can hardwire your broadband from your house router to your workshop as long as you keep it to 328 feet. But don't use CAT 8 cable, it's the fastest but only good for (10 meters).

Is it true laguna cncs are made in china?
MySchizo Buddy I do believe they use some parts from China. But this is probably a question for Laguna.. I put a direct number to a rep in the description.
Are these machines made in China?
I believe the parts are made overseas... probably China.. and assembled in America.
I would probably buy one of these if they used a computer for a controller and not the hand held controller.
retiredsearge This sounds like a question for the Laguna Rep. The number is 1-949-527-6160 I’m sure if there’s a way to do it he would know! His name is John Carrasco!
Thanks for insights man. I'm interested in upgrading and buy bigger cnc soon. I learn something from this video. Keep up the good work buddy.
Slovenian Woodworker Thanks Brother!! Glad you enjoyed it.. 👍👊
