- This video essentially captures Kara & Alex from season 4 with a few creative liberties in between.
I had a lot of fun playing around with Kara’s struggle as she comes to term with her new reality and the oh-so-obvious undercurrent of emotions between Alex and Supergirl in their new dynamic. There’s hurt and anger and confusion, but then there’s also this undying commitment and love between these characters, such that they always pull together when they are lost and hurting. There will never be a world where Alex doesn’t save Kara, doesn’t protect her, and doesn’t love her. No matter the odds, Kara and Alex will always be inevitably drawn to each other. Even as Kara loses all hope and nearly dies, Alex pulls her back and gets her to come back… come home.
Anyway, this video goes out to a very special friend and my favorite writer. You are incredible and I hope you like this little gift as a way of celebrating your birthday. I mean you wrote my favorite long-fic on this song so, yeah. This one’s definitely for you.

Several things jogged Alex's memories. The biggest one was a sudden changed brain chemistry due to the failed adoption. That amount of dopamine will alter the brain. This is why Alex had a dream about her and Kara when they were younger, am adopted Kara would relate directly to the failed adoption. The other triggers were smaller but more direct. Supergirl suddenly being so concerned with Alex's safety, not wanting Alex to go with her to Red Daughter's loft, seeking into the DEO to check on Alex, these were odd behaviors to Alex and it made her look at Supergirl differently. The other one was perhaps the real trigger, the sudden compassion. Everything Supergirl did when Alex and her were in the loft was so out of character but felt so familiar at the same time. She may not remember Supergirls identity, but she knows Kara's touch. She knows how she feels. You could see it in Alex's eyes, if not for the phone call, she would have remembered right there. The final nail was that if you think about it, Alex hadn't actually seen Supergirl in true danger since he memory was wiped. Watching Supergirl get hit sparked emotions, he instinct has always been to protect Kara. Seeing Supergirl get hurt created those same protective instincts and all the factors came together to jog the memory. Alex needed a double dose of Jon's wipe just to make it stick, her mental bond with Kara was to strong. It's not a shocker that our couldn't hold up to intense situations. Besides, she was showing signs of getting there anyway. When Supergirl asked her to come with her, she followed her gut, her instinct was always to protect Kara. During the anti alien rally seeing Supergirl in that setting, she had pride for her. She was proud of what Supergirl was doing, like a sister would be. You could see those feelings stir.
I went on this rant because i think the memory wipe was a mistake for the show. It lasted too many episodes and they never really got Kara and Alex back to the same sisterly energy that they had before the wipe. Kalex was the heart of the show, you killed that and then destroyed the other major bond, Lena and Kara. So for season 5 you really had nothing. That's why i think the show stalled.

The first season was as much about Kara becoming Supergirl as it was about her and sister. They go from being in there own little world with only each other to depend on. To having full lives and a great group of friends.
The ending of the show is not just about Kara being fully herself. It's about how Alex got to grow up and on by having her own family. It's about how for some people growing up is being them self fully. To other's its settling down and starting a family.

THIS IS FREAKING AMAZING! These two are by for the best relationship on the show and season 4 is a high favorite of mine just for their storyline. Great work and incredible editing!
See i think the opposite. Alex and Kara were the heart of the show and for 10 episodes that bond was gone. They drug out that plotline to long. Should have been shorter. But then to make it worse, season 5 never really recaptured that connection the same way prior to the memory wipe. On top of that they killed the other major relationship, Kara and Lena. They rebuilt Supergirls relationship with Lena only to kill it again by the end of season 4. So season 5 had a less connected Alex and Kara and a busted Kara and Lena. 1 if those relationships needed to be strong if the other wasn't. Neither was in season 5 and it hurt the show. Badly. Season 6 was better. It showed Alex slowly taking a step back from her 24/7 Kara duties so that she could develope a life with her new family. It showed Alex observing Lena take on Alex's role. This made Alex feel comfortable in stepping back. Lena did all the things Alex used to do, ate potstickers after missions, talked Kara out of risky decisions, protected her from herself, and was there after she healed instead of Alex. See that was the right way to do it. But the show was dead by then because of season 4 and 5.
