I went to the butterfly place. It was so fun, but I’m going to the bird Kingdom today and I’m so excited. I’m so happy for your daughter. She looks so cool.❤
I’ll never forget..my eldest when she was 4. I had co-founded a wildlife rescue and rehab as a 17yr old. (Long story, but it started out just like Lily, driving folks nuts with my critters. I ended up in human medicine-with lots of critters on the side). We had some albino squirrels, and their size and vary widely, so we weren’t exactly sure how old they were, but we were releasing them the next day. My daughter ran in holding sassy and Sammy…”MAMA, THEY CONNECTED AND I CAN’t pull them apart, HELP ME!” 🤯😖😂 🐿️ Poor Sammy looked terrified..as did Sassy, I doubt it was pleasant for either. I guess they were a bit older than we thought. About 3 months later we returned to release more albinos (AFTER an age appropriate discussion on why NOT to pull ANY critters apart!)..within a few minutes, “MAMA, MORE BABIES! CAN WE TAKE THEM HOME?!” Sassy and Sammy were proud parents of beautiful albino quadruplets! I guess the trauma wasn’t as bad as we thought at first! Because we had so many babies as well as “physically challenged” adults who lived in and around our home-I had made a small booklet that *I* thought was age appropriate, complete with pictures of Sammy and Sassy, Sissy, Harry..and more. I consulted with my professors at the time as well as my daughter’s teachers. I didn’t want my children to grow up scared of asking questions, or being able to use appropriate terminology without being beaten and locked in a room. (Even my health ed materials when I was 13 ended up in a severe beating and 3 months of restrictions…not that I was allowed to do much anyways.). I was…harmed at 13 and still knew nothing about puberty or periods, never mind anything else..at 16. When my “mother” found out what the neighborhood teen bully had done to me…I was taken to the convent where I was locked in a room for weeks. It was obviously MY fault. I swore it would be different with my kids and my husband felt the same way. Oh my…my daughter took her little booklet to school with her..NOT for the birds and bees, but at 5-6, she wanted to show her friends the pictures of our “babies”. The Sheriff was at my work, the local ER, a few hours after I dropped her off at Pre-K. A couple of parents were at the school and saw “the filth” in my little book that said NOTHING about humans and didn’t even go into squirrel anatomy. They claimed I was trying to force sx Ed on the Pre-K. One even threatened to Sue me for “corrupting” her daughter, my daughter’s best friend. Thankfully, I had the support of the teachers, administrators, my colleagues at work, and the Sheriff, who had known me since I was about 15..thought it was both hilarious and the dumbest call he’d ever gotten. 🙄. That mom yelled that my daughter would be pregnant and on drugs by 15. She’s now 43, has been with her wife for 23 years, married since 2016. No drugs, no pregnancy, but they have 4 God-Children! 😁. My younger daughter is 36, happily married Nurse Practitioner, undergoing fertility treatments. 🙏🏼 My daughter’s friend? I hope she’s ok now..but yes, she was pregnant at 16, 18 and, unfortunately, lost her children to DHS..you can guess why. 😔. Her father actually called my ex, who became a politician, and yelled at him that they thought my “filthy grooming” is what set their daughter down the wrong path. She was 5. It was squirrels in love. 🙄🤦🏼♀️. Yep..I’m SURE it had NOTHING to do with their extreme sheltering of the poor girl. Moral: abstinence teachings or lack of ANY education has been repeatedly proven to have paradoxical effects on children. Don’t believe me? Go look at the numbers of teenage pregnancies, abortions, STD’s and unreported SA’s…as well as our rapidly growing maternal-infant mortality rates, in states with Abstinence only OR, some counties in some southern states have removed health education altogether. Good heavens, I’m NOT for sx Ed in kindergarten. But age appropriate health education SHOULD be a requirement..cuz, guess what? They aren’t getting it at home either. Sorry…my pet peeve. Education is the solution to so many issues in today’s society…but our educational system, like our healthcare system, has gone from #1 in the world to 3rd world numbers. Our children ARE OUR FUTURE. Raising kids in a society based on fear, demonizing education…it doesn’t bode well for our country. Your precious girls are absolutely adorable-and bring back so many beautiful memories! As someone with her MS in microbiology as well as being an RN-Paramedic; watching you do simple experiments with the girls made me cry! Hint: carnivorous plants! My Son made his first bog terrarium when he was five…I DONT suggest poaching endangered Pitcher Plants (don’t ask! 😂. I think there are some that aren’t endangered though) but Venus fly traps are plentiful! Of course, my advisor also bought my precious late son his first microscope and computer when he was 4. Keep up the great job mom & dad! Parenting is an incredible, joyous adventure! Oh..Dr Kitty Leela also enjoyed your videos 😉. Now…have to put her Mr Vivo videos on so I can get some painting done. (One of her many online boyfriends 😻. Dr Leela is a rather outgoing, MUCH too smart, ginger 1/2 Maine Coon)
My in-laws lived very close to Butterfly World. Both my kids loved it. My son was 9 months then and we walked all around with this one butterfly on his head.
I love butterfly houses and aoone of the seasonal ones where I come from in Michigan these butterflies literally travel the world over before they come to is and then go to yheir nxt destination!
