  • Installation of 16 x 6V Deep Cycle "L-16" batteries for an off grid solar power system. This is two series of 8 6V batteries wired in parallel to get a 48 Volt battery bank. This is done to optimize efficiency and lower wiring cost of the system.
Check out my other videos for more in depth analysis of the entire project.

So many people do not know what they are talking about when the explain their own ideas on battery banks, but I am happy to see that you really know your stuff. Thanks for the video man, its good to see you taking so much time about setting up your batteries correctly.

Hey, I totally understand, I wish I had better video of it... the reason being is that it was just me filming and was my first attempt at video taping it.. I'll get better footage and post a new version. Thanks for watching. check my newer videos out, they are done better.

Use adhesive lined heat-shrink sleeving for your spanner insulation, it's tough stuff! Electrician's tape goes sticky/slimy when warm or old and can slip under pressure, leaving your delicate paws unprotected.

Hello, these batteries have a AmpHour capacity of 375Ah each.. There are 16 of them, meaning it has a capacity of 6000Ah, however you never want to use more than 50% of the battery capacity before recharging, so it is realistically 3000 usable Amp Hours. Or about 7 days backup for the needs of this system.

Do you have a wiring diagram? what was the total Amp hour for the bank?

OK, so you spend 5 minutes letting us watch you shift the batteries around in the box then skip to them already wired? annoying as hell.

This is an afterthought for you, I worked for Exide Battery and they used copper straps on threaded lugs that gave a positive connection and you could get consistent spacing.

Electric tape will make the job much safer for those voltages. But please stretch the tape as you put it on with the roll. Very nice setup! Please share your battery hydrometer readings and charge controller settings. also who made your batteries and what does the manufacture recommend for charge settings. And what did you use to crimp the cables??

Do you have a 48volt inverter running this system?

Hi, really nice setup!! What gauge wire are you using within the bank?

I know, those first videos I did were horrible, I didnt record them the right direction on my iphone and didnt get enough footage. Sorry about that. I am getting better, check out my latest vids.. Thanks for watching!

aside from showing us how to insulate a tool, and re position batteries the title of your post is "How to Wire an Off-Grid Solar Battery Bank at 48V for most efficiency". You've failed at explaining your method....... If you didn't have the illustration on how to wire a battery bank in parallel the entire video would have been pointless. Not trying to sound like a tool myself but a little video editing and sticking to the subject would make this a lot better.
