  • The Soviet Union, led by Stalin, exiled tens of thousands of Meskhetian Turks living in the Meskhetian region of Georgia on November 14th, 1944. Meskhetian (Ahiskan) Turks, who were put on trains and traveled for days in wagons on the condition that they would not even go down to their destination, were dispersed all over the Soviet territory. They were exiled to the Central Asian regions of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. Many Ahiska Turks, who were deeply wounded in their efforts to find a homeland, lost their lives on this fatal journey.
