How To Paint Using a Kitchen Sponge ~Acrylic Painting

- To create an acrylic painting using a kitchen sponge, begin by gathering your materials: acrylic paints in your desired colors, a canvas or painting surface, a palette or plate for mixing colors, and a clean kitchen sponge.
First, squeeze a small amount of each paint color onto your palette or plate, ensuring they're easily accessible. Dip the corner or edge of the kitchen sponge into one color at a time. I like to use two colors at the same time, so that they blend as you swirl on them on the canvas.
Then, lightly press and dab and swirl in all directions the sponge onto the canvas, experimenting with different pressures and angles to achieve varied textures and effects.
Layer colors and blend them as desired, using the sponge to create dynamic patterns and gradients. Allow each layer to dry (which will happen quickly with acrylic paint) before adding additional colors or details.
Finally, step back and admire your unique acrylic painting created with the humble kitchen sponge, exploring its versatility and creativity in your artistic process. It's an easy technique that achieve incredible results. Enjoy!

Beautiful work
Thank you very much!
I enjoy your emotion process. Swings from liking, missing, wanting, indecisive, trying, exploring. Also what is the sequence in visual to sensory decisions. Isn't it nice to have a world of no one judging? Question is what makes it finished? Parts to whole or creativity exhausted or bored or emotion is satisfied and time for dinner!
Hello! Painting is my passion and I love the creativity it gives me to be able to change my mind while I'm creating. lol. My paintings are finished when I feel there is nothing else that I can add (or remove) to improve it. Thanks for watching. I appreciate it.
I have tried your sponge technique and I will continue to work with it…. I am a cloud painter as well using acrylic and brushes, but I was amazed at how the sponge allowed me to build and explore quickly …. Loved the effect.
Wonderful! Thanks for letting me know, and thanks for watching!

Your painting and the colors of paint that you chose are both absolutely beautiful, Soraya! The original painting was very pretty but now your painting is stunning! Thank you again for sharing your talent and process with us! Yes, I am definitely going to give this technique a try! First I have to buy some sponges!😊

Thank you so much for this video, I have paintings I don’t like. As you done, changing certain aspects of a painting is great, I wasn’t sure you do this. So thanks to you I now know I can. ❤❤. Jane BrIsbane, Australia.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching all the way from Australia 😀
Beautiful result! I do love it better this way. Always so relaxing and interesting to watch as you create your paintings. 💖

Gorgeous, the 'after' is so much more interesting !
Thank you! 😀
เป็นงานศิลปะที่ยอดเยี่ยม แล้วพบกันใหม่ 💯
Thank you 🙏
Beautiful painting and techniek. I used it already last week in my classes. Only on this painting I like it if there is more different in colours between the sky and the water. Now it looks on the end to much the same blue on water and sky and that makes boring to looked to it. The sky it's much better now as before and is a good balance in peace areas and crowdy areas. This technick have so much potential. Good work Soraya go on with it 👍❤️
Ok, thanks!
Thank you for your demo. I am definitely going to try this on paintings I've given up on. Paintings that have been sitting on the shelf for years.
Wonderful! great to hear. Thanks for watching!
Wow. Just mesmerizing ❤❤
Thank you Lori 😀
Very beautiful painting Soraya ❤❤
Thank you so much 😀
I'm so glad you got rid of that bat!
Hahahaha, me too! Thanks for watching!
I love your work and went out and bought kitchen sponges - that look like yours but I am not getting the same effect. Guess it takes time to do it lightly enough. I will keep trying because I really love your paintings.
Awesome! I’ve been doing this for years so you need to take some time to get the hang of it. Don’t put pressure on yourself to get it perfect, just have fun. View it as a way to just learn at first. You’ll get there! Thanks for watching 😀
Hi Soraya,
I absolutely love, love your paintings. I really want to try this. Can it be done on mixed media paper while I am learning or is a canvas or canvas board better ?
Thank you so much for sharing your amazing talent with us. ❤
Thank you so much 😀 I’ve only ever tried it on canvas but I think it would work on the mixed media paper. Please let me know if you do try it. 😀
I,ve already tried this technique and I like it very much
There is a brazilian painter here in youtube using this technique - Eliane Pasquetti. She is amazing
Cool, thanks!
Definitely going to try this normaly I use brushes and so used to it but why not you seem to get some very nice results…..
Go for it! Thanks for watching 😀

Hi Soraya, picking up...'patiently'...'slowly'. Agree that when we own the painting, it's fine to change it. Have obliterated some by covering with too much paint, impatiently. Mostly have done so successfully. Restful to watch. Thank you. Blessings.
Wonderful! So great to hear ☺️ thank you very much 💖
I did try it, it came out ok I need more practice
Good to know. Keep trying. Thanks for watching 😀
Are you using some kind of medium with the paint to help extend the dry time and fluidity. I have tried this with just paint and water and the paint drags.
Hi!
No, I’m not using any mediums. If I need to I add a touch of water.
Do you recommend starting with darker layers? How do you add textured layers like the wave crests in your original painting at 28:14 ?
Hi! I prefer to start with darker colors and then go lighter but not always. I achieved the Texture by adding paint with a palette knife. Hope that helps
@@SorayaZiziArtist Thanks! Can you describe the palette knife technique? Did you dab small amounts of paint with the tip of the knife? Or use the edge?
@@SorayaZiziArtist Thanks! Will try that.
@@danchristensen7270 I use a couple of colours on the edge of the knife and spread put onto the canvas.
О, это очень красиво!Вы работаете акрилом,можно ли это сделать маслом?
Thank you very much 😀 I have only ever used acrylic. Not sure if it will work in oil. If you try it, let me know! 😀
I tried the sponge technique and it only looked good from 15-20 feet away. Up close it looked messy and pretty.
Ok, glad you tried it. When it looks messy up close is when you need to use your brushes to refine. Use a drop of water on the paint to add softness and blending along the edges. Hope that helps!
