    Hi friend, I want to say a big thank for the information provided. It was very easy and clear to understand what all you explain. I am an engineer specialized in amplifier building, but I want to get my B.S.C. but all the online courses I saw was not helpful. So I am going to try Khan academy. I am an African I am a Liberian. We have a horrible learning institution in our country most especially in the field of electronic. So I hop Khan academy will be a great help to me, thank you once more.

    Thank you for this information. I am a master class automation technician in the biomedical manufacturing field. I have been a lead technician for about 10 years, and have pretty much hit a brick wall in my career path. I am self educated. I actually hold zero certifications. I am told now at thins point I "need at minimum to hold a bachelors degree" in order to climb the ladder any further in the world of manufacturing. Another common wall i run into when applying to other companies is "over qualified". .. I have little time to attend university due to 40-76 hour work weeks and being a father of 4 kids... I am at the moment researching how to stitch together a "degree" in mechatronics through certifications. This video was helpful, so i appreciate your time. I agree kahn academy does offer very good courses, but there is no certifications for completing, so they hold no weight. I would suggest someone in my situation use them as a prep for a certification... their electrical engineering course is very good, but it will not hold any value. If there is an actual accredited course that s similar out there, i recommend going that path instead. Again, thank you for your time and consideration to people that may be in different situations than your own. The world needs more people like you!

    • @alfredomulleretxeberria4239
      @alfredomulleretxeberria4239 Před rokem +2

      You can't stitch together a degree just through KhanAcademy courses. Udemy and edx offer lots of courses, many of which can be redeemed for college credit at *certain* universities, but most universities will require you take some lab courses which you might have to go to an actual university (or at least to a local community college) for the sake of completing lab requirements. Additionally, assignments at Udemy and edx courses are often leagues beneath real university courses in terms of homework and test difficulty, which is why some universities might not accept the completion of any online courses (even the ones created and offered by them) in exchange for real college credit.
      If your aim is to gain the theoretical knowledge that electrical engineers have, then yes, you can get that from online resources, but if your aim is to get a real, valid engineer's diploma, I'm afraid that there is no way of working your way around signing up at a university and taking courses with them.
      Do whatever you can to find out if there's a local college that offers online night courses, which will also allow you to take weekend lab classes.

      @jeremymcdonald5281 Před rokem +1

      @@alfredomulleretxeberria4239 thank you for your time and insightful response and advice. Since a year ago when I initially made this response, I have been successful in "stitching" a "degree" together. I am no longer an automation technician, but an Electrical Controls Reliability Engineer at the largest shipping company in the world. However, I decided not to stop there. Since after "stitching together my degree" and getting this new job in the career of my choice, I also make enough money and gave enough time to pursue an accredited degree (just to augment my experience for employers). I found an ABET-accredited Electrical Systems Engineering program and am attending University online, at an employer respected University. My area of concentration in my degree program is mechatronics. I would like to state that I do understand the value of a degree or diploma and what it says for someone's character. I will also say this if you are an engineering student I highly recommend augmenting your education with real-world experience. Too many times, I have had interns sent to me that fell on their faces really hard and were humbled by application vs theory and it took me quite some time to get them up to speed (not that theoretical knowledge doesn't serve its purpose). In automation, you won't really find anyone to "train" you- you will be expected to hit the ground running, will have to adopt a fake-it-till-you-make-it mentality and learn constantly on the fly, and most likely cope with very heavy doses of imposter syndrome. the field of mechatronics is constantly changing and evolving, and at an accelerated rate, so your ability to perform well under pressure and consume a massive amount of new information will be more valuable than a degree in the end. If you can go to university by all means do this, but just know it is possible to "stitch together a degree" and land an engineering job without a degree, but it will not be easy. Put your all into what your dreams are and they will come true. Knowledge is power, no matter how you obtain it. Stay thirsty my friends.

    If you decided to forgo the "certificate of indentured servitude" and simply learn all you can free online, how far do you think you'd be able to get? Both in terms of a full education and in the workforce.

      If you are doing something in software. You can get very far in terms of both education and workforce if your learn for free online. Software is one of the best fields for self learning and getting a good job. But most other engineering fields you’d more than likely have to go the traditional route.

      I mean it helps learning. Depending on which country you’re in they have professional recognised certificates etc that are accepted. It shows you know the regulations etc. like in England the council of Engineering. Others it’s more about working and getting experience, even if it’s a day or two where you are not getting paid, when you do apply for a job that experience shows quite a lot. I guess research and see what’s out there
